He glanced at Nova’s truck and shook his head. “Actually, I was wondering if you’d come with me somewhere.” The last thing he needed was his little sister listening in to their discussion and butting her nose into his business.

“Oh. Sure.”

He turned and walked towards the ATV, lifting his leg over and settling on. “Coming?”

She eyed the vehicle, biting her lip. “I’ve never been on one of these things.”

“I’ll be gentle.” Shit. He was not supposed to be flirting with her.

Her whiskey eyes met his. God, she was beautiful. Dark strands of hair blowing in the summer breeze. Her full pink lips, curved with a Cupid’s bow at the top directly in the center of a round face that was just as soft as it seemed too. And those curves. His cock hardened, making his seat uncomfortable, but he’d be damned if he shifted and drew attention to it.

“Won’t let anything happen to you or the baby,” he promised. No one would hurt them. Not as long as he drew breath.

She licked her lips and wiped her hands on her shorts before approaching the vehicle. Nash reached out his hand to help her on. She swung her leg over the back of the seat, climbing on behind him. Her thighs pressed on either side of him, making his cock even harder with memories of those legs wrapped around him while he fucked her and had the most powerful orgasm of his life.

“Um, do you care if I hold on to you?” she asked.

He gave a jerky nod. Maybe they should have taken the truck. Too late now.

Nash started the engine and her palms slid over his abs, linking in front of him. A few inches lower and she’d feel just how affected he was by her touch.

“Hang on,” he said before hitting the gas.

Bella held on tighter. He eased the four-wheeler down the road to a path he knew by heart. A few minutes went by, the rumble of the engine the only sound as he cut through the forest towards their destination. The path narrowed ahead with a rock formation. He slowed the ATV. Bella peered over his shoulder before her grip tightened.

His hand dropped to her bare thigh without thinking, electric heat searing up his arm. He squeezed, hoping to convey comfort. “This part gets a little tight. Just hang on and lean how I do.”

He maneuvered them past the rocks and back onto the trail. Another few minutes passed until the trees broke and the clearing came into view. He drove through the tall grass straight to the center of the hill where a few flat rocks rested. He shut the engine off.

After climbing down, he pressed a palm to his groin to try and calm the ache before he extended his hand to Bella to help her off. Her knees wobbled as she landed on the ground, grasping both his arms to steady herself.

“You okay?”

She nodded with a smile. “Yeah, the vibration turned my legs into Jell-O I think.”

“Do you need a moment?” His voice came out gruff. The longer she touched him, the harder it was to control the arousal that flooded his veins. But crossing that line with her again couldn’t happen.

“No, I’m good.” She straightened.

“Stay here a moment. I’ll get a few things set up.” He walked back around to the cooler and unloaded it, carrying it to the flat outcropping in the middle. The ground up here was a mix of rock and moss; farther down, it was more like a meadow. They couldn’t farm it, but there were plenty of woods around. A small access road led up here, but it wasn’t used much—only to log already fallen trees for heating their houses.

He opened the cooler and laid out the blanket he’d brought on the rock. Maybe I should have brought a chair for her to be more comfortable? Too late now. Next time.

If there was a next time.

“You can see the whole farm from up here and beyond,” Bella pointed out, looking off into the distance.

He took in the view. The sun was shining, though low in the sky, and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. Green rolling hills and trees scattered the space below, his parents’ and siblings’ houses all within view. On a clear day like today, you could see for miles. This was one of his favorite spots. Where he came to think and write and be alone—without the chance of a well-meaning family member dropping by. It was where he came to forget. And to remember. There was only one other woman he’d brought up here.

Flashes of Ana’s red hair dancing in the wind as she pranced around the field below, gathering flowers, assaulted his memory.

“Nash?”

“Hmm?”

“Where’d you go?”

He shook his head. “Sorry.”
