This is not real. It can’t be.

“Dominiano?”

“Surprise.”

CHAPTER31

MEMORIES

My throat went dry, and my heart raced as I stared at my worst nightmare. I was frozen for a moment. I noticed his blue scrubs. He works here? Dominiano is a doctor?

He smiled broadly as he walked in. The stethoscope around his neck didn’t go with the tattoos covering his skin.

How on earth did he become a doctor?

He looked taller and broader. His face was still the same. He still wore big rings on his fingers. His raven hair was long and curly. He reminded me of a young Avan Jogia, Vina’s childhood crush.

“Great meeting you here, Chloe.” His accent had not changed.

He stopped next to the bed. I searched skillfully for the emergency button with my hand.

Memories of that night flashed in front of me. My heart was beating so fast, telling to get away. This was the right time for Tristan to return.

“Hi.” That was all my voice could manage.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, reading the heart monitor. He looked like he knew what he was doing. He turned to look at me when I didn’t answer.

“Fine,” I replied as he chuckled softly, the sound sending chills through me.

“I get it. You are in shock. Strange for us to meet like this, huh?”

I nodded.

“I know, right? Who would have thought someone like me would want to be a nurse?”

Nurse?

“You … you work here?”

For a moment, I thought he had come for me. He had threatened to kill me and my entire family if I told anyone his secret. How did he know I’d told Tristan about him?

“Yeah. When I found out you were here, I wanted to see you.”

That scared me. Why?

He went on, checking my vitals while I kept my hand on the emergency button in case anything happened. He asked me a few questions about my health, and I replied, trying to stay calm. I always knew he was smart, but I never in a million years would have thought of him becoming a health care worker.

He finished scribbling something down and took the seat beside the bed. He sat back and crossed his legs. I cocked my eyebrows at him, wondering why he was still here.

“I’m glad I found you again. This is my chance to take good care of you after what I did to you.”

I was surprised to hear that. “Why?”

“After my dad passed away, a lot changed. I couldn’t continue his business. He left me millions, and I didn’t know what to do with it.” He laughed.

Dirty money.

“I met someone. We just got married, and she is pregnant with triplets.”
