“You only have this place of business because I allow it, Mr.—”

“Mr. Christiano,” Stefano supplied.

“Mr. Christiano, I’m Luciano Romano, and you will answer my wife’s questions.”

Blood drained from the guy’s face, and his eyes opened wide.

“Yes, sir. How may I help you?” He tried pulling up his pants and zipping them. “Ma’am, what can I answer for you?”

Even though Carina had given them a false name. We did show them a few pictures of my sister before they finally admitted that she worked there.

“I swear I didn’t know she was a Montrelli. I wouldn’t have hired her if I did. Her boyfriend always came with her every shift to make sure that nothing happened. She left with him the night before last and no one has seen them since.” The owner finally confessed.

Luciano got a call and put it on speaker for all of us to hear.

“We’ve been to the guard’s house, but his body is sitting in the car with a gunshot wound to the head. The doors are wide open in the garage, and Carina is nowhere to be found. It’s evident there was a struggle,” Nick reported.

I wanted to rush right over there.

“It would be a waste of time.” Luciano clasped my shoulder to comfort me as we moved outside to the vehicles. “They won’t find anything more than my soldiers have.”

He wrapped his arms around me so I couldn’t move until I just simply broke down crying. He lifted me up and put me in the car.

“It’s not becoming for a mafia boss to break down, but I can’t help it. Too much has happened and my sister is gone,” I cried into his shoulder.

“Let’s take you home and get some rest.” He instructed the driver to head home. “No, we can’t go home. We can’t do that,” I protested.

He shushed me and rocked me in his lap as we were driven home. I couldn’t stop crying, and I was angry that I couldn’t control it.

When we arrived home, I wasn’t able to function. I simply sat there looking out the window until he picked me up and carried me inside to the bedroom.

Stefano came into the room and handed him something. I knew that it wasn’t going to be good, but I had no idea that he would inject me with something. My body immediately relaxed, but I still wasn’t quite asleep.

“Baby, this won’t hurt, but it will help you to get some sleep.” Luciano spoke close to my ear. “I love you and I can’t stand to see you like this. I’ll fix everything. You’ll have your sister back.”

Stefano handed something else to my husband. “Here’s a package that Nick just brought to me. He says they found it outside the bodyguard’s home with a note on it. It says we need to look at it urgently.”

I watched through heavy lids as he agreed with Stefano.

While Luciano held my hands, he asked, “My love, are you sure you want to look at this?”

“She’s still alive. I’d know since I’m her twin, but I can feel that she’s alive. Whatever the message is, I can handle it.”

“Please, let’s do it now.” I could feel my words slurring, but I knew this box had something to do with my sister and I needed to know before I passed out.

“There was a package with a letter inside.” He let go of one hand and picked it up to read. “You took one of our girls, so now we’ve replaced her with one of yours.”
