Hedefinitelymeant Black Light.

Instead of a corset, he’d sent a bodysuit made entirely of black lace. Attached to each leg hole were two straps with clips at the end, which were obviously meant to hold up the black thigh high stockings he’d included.

Don’t let the assholes win.

Emma’s words had a lump forming in her throat. Was she strong enough for this? Maybe not, but she wasn’t going to find out if she kept hiding herself away from the world. She owed it to herself and Austin to give their love another chance.

Even if, in the end, she could only give him tonight, she had to at least try.

Chapter 31

Austin

“Are you sure she’s coming?” Bouncing lightly on his toes, Chase seemed more nervous about whether Kit was going to show than Austin was.

Ignoring the doubt churning in his stomach, Austin gave a sharp nod. “She’s coming.”

Maybe.

A small hand landed on his arm and Austin looked down into Emma’s wide, warm eyes. “She’ll be here. She’s stronger than you give her credit for.”

“I think she’s strong as hell,” he snapped, inwardly sighing when her men stiffened and glared at him. “Sorry. I’m just feeling a little antsy.”

Antsy didn’t even begin to describe it. At nearly half past nine, he was just about to give up all hope when the bell above the door of the psychic shop jingled. His heart stuttered to a stop in his chest when she stepped through the door, twin flags of red coloring riding high on her cheeks.

Despite the sultry warmth of the summer evening, she was wearing a long coat, and what was visible of her legs was sheathed in the sheer black stockings he’d sent her. Pride welled in his chest as he watched her cross the lobby of the shop to him, her eyes downcast.

When she was standing in front of him, he gripped her chin and gently nudged her face up to look at him. She’d done some kind of women’s magic with her eyes, making them look wider, with flecks of gold reflected in the dark depths.

“You’re late, kitten,” he admonished softly.

“I’m sorry, sir.” She hesitated, seemingly weighing her next words. “I kept changing my mind about coming.”

“You made the right choice.” His grip on her chin tightened and he deliberately lowered his voice. “But you’re still going to be punished.”

Her lips parted on a sharp intake of breath. “Yes, sir. I’m sorry.”

“There’s my good girl. Let’s go.”

But as soon as he turned, Emma brushed past him and threw her arms around Kit’s neck. “I’m so proud of you!”

To his surprise, Kit returned the embrace. “Thank you. I don’t know if I would have come tonight if it hadn’t been for you.”

He glanced over at Jaxson and Chase, both of whom gave a resigned shrug as if to say they didn’t have any control over what Emma did. Austin didn’t buy their innocent act for a minute, but if it had helped to get Kit to the club, he certainly wasn’t going to hold any meddling they may have done against them.

“Come on, kitten. We have a spot reserved and I have plans for you.”

Kit gave Emma a quick, hard squeeze before pulling away and smiling up at him. There was worry in her eyes he hated seeing, but hopefully what he had planned would help to alleviate it. Slipping an arm around her waist, he led her through the back entrance, down the steps and long tunnel under the alley. When it came time to hand over her coat in the locker room entrance, she hesitated, giving him a pleading look.

He took the decision out of her hands by reaching over and sliding the buttons through their holes and pushing the coat from her shoulders. With a small whimper, she let her arms relax and he was able to pull it all the way off.

“Holy fuck, kitten. You look amazing.”

The bodysuit was better than he’d imagined. Black lace criss-crossed over her breasts, her already hard nipples clearly visible through the sheer fabric. Coupled with the stockings and the vibrant red heels she’d added on her own, it was enough to make a man want to drop to his knees and thank every god in existence for her.

“Thank you, sir.”

Chuckling, he pulled her close to him again and nuzzled her neck. “That thanks might sound more sincere if you weren’t looking like you might bolt at any second.”
