“I bet.”

Madam Eve snaps her fingers, drawing everyone’s attention back to her. “Adoption events are fine and all, but what will make this one different from any other in the area? Or even from what we’ve done in the past?”

The room goes silent once more, thoughtful expressions clouding the faces of my colleagues. She has a point. The draw of The Garden isn’t just the safe, LGBTQ-inclusive space Madam has created. It’s how she caters to her members. The way she draws in new membership and the exclusivity of her events.

Looking for a suspension demonstration? Yeah, we have those, but it’s going to be done by a throuple who likes to instigate a little impact play with their bondage.

Need detailed instruction on engaging in service submission as a first-timer? The Garden has a session scheduled once a month focused on exploring the aspect of servitude ranging from domestic service to forniphilia and the variances between service kink and other types of submission.

What about Doms-in-training? Check, check, check. Madam Eve has a specialized program in which she guides Doms and Dommes in kink, SSC and RACK protocols, equipment, and practice venues. It’s actually a program required to become one of her DMs.

No, this woman won’t let us have a normal—if such a word can be applied to a BDSM club—adoption event.

“I can see your mind working and the dejection already, Dean,” Madam Eve says. “I didn’t say no. Ilikethe idea, but it needs…a little spin.”

Aspen purrs loudly. “Sounds like you have something in mind, Madam.”

As innocent as her namesake suggests, the smirk tilting her mouth is anything but. Normally, it doesn’t make me quiver in the slightest. But this time, there’s a spark in her eyes, and the whole of her expression is aimed my way.

Lesser men would turn and flee under her look. While I stand my ground, mostly because I’m already sitting, I do gulp.

“Ido, and it’s an inspiration drawn from my most beloved Daddy.” Madam Eve’s grin turns wicked. “How do we feel about a Daddy adoption night?”

Thunderous agreement flows from around the table.

Ah shit.

I should have known tossing out a preference would bite me in the ass. I’ve managed to fly under Madam Eve’s matchmaking radar since starting here, but it looks like my luck has run out.

TWO

“It’s only a few hours,Tanner. You can do this, then wake up early to finish chores,” I say, negotiating with my reflection in the small visor mirror. If anyone walks by right now, they’ll think I’ve lost my mind.

Truthfully, they wouldn’t be too far off the mark. I’ve been sitting in the parking lot for fifteen minutes, wavering on whether or not I should be here.

It’s one night. You still have two whole days to work on your chores list.

I should be sleeping then, catching up on the rest I’ve missed all week.

Or you could play for a couple of hours and still have a reasonable bedtime. Don’t you miss how relaxed your mind is after playing?

The last comment wins the argument.

Determined to give me what I need, since I don’t have anyone else to do it for me, I shut off the ignition and slip out of the car. Before I can change my mind—or argue with myself for the umpteenth time—I shove my keys in the pocket of my backpack and make quick strides to the entrance.

Good to know this place hasn’t changed in the slightest. The Garden is still dark and ominous from the outside, the bouncer at the front door menacing as ever, and yet, it’s as familiar as my own home.

Handing my ID to the bouncer, I wait patiently as he scans the plastic card and my face before returning it. With a small nod and a muttered, “Have a good night,” he pushes open the heavy wooden door, granting me access to the lobby.

I manage three small steps inside before an excited voice calls my name, “Tanner!”

“Hey, Aspen,” I say, waving my hand in their direction. Even that small movement is draining, but I try my hardest to push it aside.

I’m engulfed in a hug, Aspen squeezing me tightly for a few seconds. Giving me a bright smile when they step back, they hold on to my shoulders when they say, “It’s been ages, sweetie. Where you been, loca?”

“No, no, no.” I shake my head, unable to hide my smile. “I swear, Aspen, just because I said I like vampires doesnotmean I have any sort of affinity for those weird glittery depictions. Especially not the cringe that is the film version.”

Aspen bops my nose with their long, pointy fingernail. “I know. I can’t resist teasing you. I swear it’s been forever though. I’m so glad to see you.”
