“Just relax.” Luca leaned against the bed and rubbed my leg. “We’ll look through the rest of the files and let you know if we find anything.”

“Can I borrow some pajamas?”

“Of course.” I followed him into his bathroom, and he pulled sweats and a T-shirt from the closet for me. Once he left, I got out of the dress as quickly as possible and let out a sigh. I wanted this night to be over.

I wished Dad never found the file on Juliet’s computer with my name. I wish none of this ever started. My fragile heart was held together with scars and hope that things could get better. Now, another hit from someone I allowed into my life, my home, and gave a piece of the love that so often betrayed me.

I wanted to close myself off. I wanted to run away from all of this and hide where I couldn’t be hurt again. I didn’t want to go through this. I knew what was coming. The suffering and pain and confusion over being betrayed yet again.

There were so few people in the world I trusted, and the list was getting smaller yet again.

I let myself back into the room and slid under the cold silk sheets. The faint clicks and whispers drifted away as my eyes closed, and I let myself fade to sleep.

“You’ve gotto be shitting me right now!”

I startled awake, but couldn’t move due to the weight across my back pinning me in place. Next to me, Gavin rubbed his face while looking around with one eye opened.

“Ugh,” Luca groaned from the other side, and as I felt him shift, the weight lifted.

“What the hell!” another voice screamed.

I rolled over and propped myself up on the pillows to see Sky, Vince, and Noah glaring at us.

“What’s wrong?” Gavin asked with a tired voice that made me want to cuddle into his chest and fall back asleep.

“What were you guys thinking?” Noah growled. “Are you actually that moronic?”

I yawned and blinked a few times. Why were they so upset? It felt far too early for them to be shouting at us.

“What are you talking about?” Luca asked, his eyes still shut.

“You broke into headquarters and were seen by CeeCee and Gwyneth, and you didn’t think we would find out?”

That got Luca awake. “Who told you?”

Sky stepped forward. “Gwyneth called me this morning.”

Gavin groaned.

“Yeah, it was quite an unpleasant surprise then to find out my best friends and girlfriend lied to me.” He was now at the end of the bed with his arms crossed.

I wanted to hug him for calling me his girlfriend, but it didn’t feel like the moment was right.

“Does anyone else know?” Luca asked.

“Yeah, she told Sean, Aaron, and Tyson that they saw you sneaking around with some girl,” Noah added.

“But no one else knows we broke in?” he clarified.

Noah’s glare, intimidating on a regular day, turned lethal. “No, you absolute idiots. So far, there have been no warnings or signs that anyone knows about your activities. Yet.”

“What about Gwyneth and CeeCee? Did she tell you what they were doing there?” Gavin asked.

Sky shook his head. “Does it matter?”

“Well, they shouldn’t have been there either. So if they told anyone they saw Luca and Ave, they’d be incriminating themselves. For all we know, they were doing something much worse than us.”
