Twenty-Five

Sky wasthe last to arrive, carrying a black crate. Noah and Vince picked up the pizzas on their way over, and Gavin made sure we had the last two movies to finish the entire series.

“What’s this?” I asked Sky when he set the crate down in front of the TV.

“I know Gavin has his heart set on watching those movies, but I felt like we needed to end this period of our lives the way it started.”

I looked at Noah to see if he had any idea what Sky was talking about, but he shrugged.

Vince knelt next to Sky, and I went into the kitchen to make sure there were enough plates and drinks out.

“What did he bring?” Luca asked.

“I’m not sure. He wouldn’t tell me.”

Luca raised a brow and went into the living room.

That’s when I heard the music. The intro to the racing game they were playing the first night I met them.

“No way!” I laughed and joined them as Sky distributed controllers. “We haven’t played in forever.”

“This was what I decided I wanted to do,” Noah said.

“It’s perfect.” I selected my character as the rest of the guys took seats. We rotated every few rounds, so everyone got a chance. I still lost every race. At least that was still the same.

“Would you have ever guessed we’d be here when you walked into that room?” Sky asked me.

I shook my head. “No way. I still don’t know what made me brave enough to go inside in the first place. I was so out of place and thought I could hide in a crowd. I didn’t realize it would only be you three.”

“I’m glad you did.” Vince smiled.

“Sorry about your first impression of me. I wasn’t exactly inviting,” Luca admitted.

“And I nearly ran you over.” Gavin laughed.

I giggled. “You were running away from a girl. That still doesn’t make sense to me.”

He rubbed his face. “Man, I do not miss those kinds of missions.”

“Do you think we’ll get a break while we’re at school?” Vince asked.

“Probably. What could we have to look into there?” Sky cringed. “Right? The Society leaves the other supernaturals to deal with themselves.”

Luca nodded. “For the most part.”

Noah groaned. “I hope we can stay out of it.”

“Is this the first time Society members have really interacted with them?” I asked.

“For this long and this closely, yeah,” Gavin answered.

“We could end up learning a lot from them. What if the witches know how to help us grow our abilities?” I offered.

“That’s a good point.” Gavin nodded. “I’m sure there’s a lot both sides can gain from this.”

“Don’t make it sound like a business deal.” Luca grimaced. “This is our lives. We’re there to learn and have fun.”

“I just wish we knew more. I don’t have the slightest idea what to expect,” I admitted.
