Sky took my hand in his. “No matter what, we’ll get through it together.”
I looked around the room at the five that held my heart. “I love you guys.”
A chorus of ‘I love you’s’ came back and they all froze, staring at each other. I held my breath, waiting for a fight.
Sky was the first to crack, laughing at the silence. “You’ve all said it too?”
Gavin nodded, glancing at Noah. “We both have.”
“And me,” Vince said with a wink in my direction.
“I have,” Luca’s deep voice sent a shiver down my spine. The direction of this conversation was making me nervous.
“Huh, I didn’t realize we were all there.” Sky said before narrowing his eyes. “Where else have we all been?”
My heart stopped.
“Hey, I thought we weren’t talking about that.” Gavin glared at him.
“Oh, like you have anything to hide.” Sky teased.
Noah coughed and everyone looked at him.
“What do you know?” Vince barked.
“Nothing.” Noah’s voice squeaked, for the first time ever. Really?
“Liar!” Sky pointed.
“Guys!” I called out.
“Just don’t underestimate Gavin,” Noah said with his hands up.
“What the hell does that mean?” Vince roared.
“Nothing!” I yelled.
“Just because you have a problem, doesn’t mean the rest of us do,” Sky smirked at Vince.
“You told him?” Vince was up and jumping on Luca.
“No! I didn’t!” Luca covered his head with his arms.
“It was a guess,” Sky burst out laughing. “Thanks for confirming.”
Vince got off Luca only to land on Sky with his fist in his gut. Sky doubled over, gasping for air while still smiling.
“Guys, stop!” Gavin stood. “We agreed not to share the things we do with Ave. It’s supposed to remain private.”
I wanted to thank him. He knew how important this was to me. How much pressure I felt to keep things even, but only Luca knew how far I’d gone with the others. But apparently Vince told Luca about not being able to control himself, so who knew what else they were telling each other. It wasn’t fair of me to say they couldn’t talk to each other. Vince obviously needed to confide in someone. I had CeeCee and Gwyn, but who did they have?
“If you guys need to talk about it, I understand. You’re best friends first.”
Vince sat down next to Sky and shared a look with Luca. “Sorry, I told him but I needed to vent to someone.”
“About what?” Gavin asked, with genuine concern.
“When things get . . . heated I can feel my control slipping. I’m really scared that I’m going to hurt her on accident.” Vince admitted.
