Words left me. She thought we were . . . that we . . . holy shit!

“Oh, no.”

This was humiliating. And awkward.

“Well, we’re bonded mates. It’s not that strange to assume,” Sai said with a growing smile.

“But we haven’t. I mean, not all––”

“Weknow,” Theo called from the sofa on the far side of the room.

I put my hands on my hips. “Excuse me?”

His eyes widened, and he immediately started backpedaling, “I meant, we know cause we––”

“Shut up,” Kaden cut him off. “It doesn’t matter because we can put silencing spells up to prevent anyone from hearing us talk or do anything.”

“Already on it,” Niall began walking the perimeter with his hands in front of him.

We stayed silent until he finished.

“How long do you think it will take them to figure out we’re keeping some secrets from them?” Sai asked as he dropped next to Theo. Kaden and I crossed the room and took the loveseat while Niall slumped into an armchair.

“If we’re careful, maybe never,” I offered, hopefully.

Niall huffed. “It’s one thing going unnoticed in a crowded school with teachers who only see you five hours a week. There will be more eyes on our every movement while we’re here. We’re going to have to decide at some point if we want to play dumb or come out and tell them everything.”

“Admit that four of us are hybrids?” Kaden leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “That’s too risky.”

“Then we leave things as they are until we know who we can trust.” Theo glanced around at each of us. “For now, we have to protect ourselves, but this could be our home for a while. We’ll need people we can depend on, like Mrs. Hedgings.”

“I wish I could contact her and Hannah.” I sighed, and Kaden reached over and squeezed my knee.

“We’ll figure out a way soon. Once the Alpha is comfortable with us and trusts his pack won’t sell us out, we can call them.”

“How do you feel being here, Saige?” Sai asked.

I hadn’t had a free moment to consider it. “I’m still in shock that we got away from the Council. Being here makes me nervous. I’m overwhelmed at the thought of meeting more of my family. What if they won’t like me being here? What if this is too good to be true and we wake up in some underground lab tomorrow morning?”

Imagines from my past visions flashed in my head again.

“That’s a lot.” Sai grimaced.

“This isn’t too good to be true. I really think we’re safe here. Much safer than we would have been.” Theo kicked his legs up, resting them in Sai’s lap before twisting to put his head on a pillow.

I expected Sai to push them off, but he made himself comfortable on his end.

“I’m exhausted.” Kaden yawned. “Who is going to sleep with Saige, and who’s taking the floor?”

“I don’t want anyone on the floor.”

I wanted us all together. I wanted to know they were with me.

“We can’t all fit on one bed,” Sai complained.

“We’ve done it before,” I protested, but he cut me off.

“No, Niall’s never stayed.”
