“Yeah, exactly.”

“I was thinking we could stay in tonight. I don't care if we just watch a movie, but it's important we spend time together without having to train or stress or work.”

“Yeah, that sounds good.”

When we got to the house, the others were already inside, and I shared my plan with them after Niall gave them the bad news. I didn’t want us to dwell on the unknowns when we had a chance to spend time together. We could worry tomorrow.

“That sounds wonderful.” Saige kissed me before going back into the kitchen. “I've been craving chicken alfredo, so I picked stuff up for that on the way home, if that's okay with you guys.”

“Did you get stuff for garlic bread?” Theo rested his head on her shoulder. She reached up and patted his cheek.

“Of course, I did.”

He kissed her, then moved around to her other side. “That sounds wonderful.”

He was always in such a good mood here. Not that he wasn't one of the most cheerful guys I knew. But since we got here, a different part of him had been unleashed. He liked working at the clinic. I think it made him feel important, more than just a rugby star like he’d been at the Academy. Here he could be the smart one, instead of Niall.

It did bother me, though, how he’d been against going off to help other hybrids. On one hand, he had a point. We were untrained teenagers, but at the same time, I agreed with Saige. The five of us were together for a reason. We were more capable than he gave us credit for. Maybe he was speaking out of fear. None of us wanted anyone to get hurt, but how could we not get involved with issues so personal to us?

Sure, we weren't the only hybrids, but that didn't mean that we weren't involved in this fight. I didn't feel right sitting back and letting the resistance or anyone else take risks when we weren't willing, but that was something we could worry about later.

Being on the compound gave us time. The Alpha had made sure of that.

I washed and dried my hands. “How can I help? Do you want me to cook the chicken or man the noodles?”

“Chicken would be great.” Saige grinned. “Theo, do you want to make the garlic bread or do you trust me?”

“I feel like that's a trick question.” He laughed. “Can’t it be an and?”

She giggled and nodded.

“I can help you.” Niall stepped up to her free side, pulling a knife from the block and cutting the French bread in half.

She stepped back. “Well, I guess I'll watch this water and wait for it to boil.”

With a smirk, the water began to bubble.

“Nice job, baby,” Kaden put his arm around her shoulder. “I can handle the noodles for you. Why don't you go sit down?”

“Why do I feel like you guys are trying to push me out of the kitchen? Is this your way of telling me that you don't like my cooking?”

“Not at all.” Kaden dropped his hands to her waist and tickled her.

She laughed, and it was the best thing in the whole world. We didn't get to hear it often enough.

The shriek of an alarm sounded, and I nearly dropped the knife in my hand.

“What the hell was that?” Theo screamed.

“I don't know.” I leaned forward to look out the kitchen window. “I don't see anything.”

Our front door burst open, nearly coming off the hinges. Two large men stepped inside.

“All of you! In here! Get down!” They shouted and pointed.

We were all in shock until Kaden led Saige over to where they were pointing. I turned off the stove, and Niall set down his knife.

They had us sit against the interior living room wall while they paced back and forth in front of the front door and windows, occasionally peering outside.
