Angel pulled back and smiled. “What are friendsfor?”

Then it was a flurry of activity as they were pulled into the great room, a fire blazing in the hearth, the lights on the Christmas tree twinkling like a pillar ofstars.

Nico shook Farrell’s hand, then opened a bottle of champagne while Leo, Luca, and Christophe offered theircongratulations.

Jenna showed off her ring and shared the story of the proposal, sticking to the setting and avoiding thedetails.

Farrell’s words had been forher.

She wanted to keep them that way, at least until Lily was older. Then she would tell her daughter how her father had proposed, hoping Lily would remember his words. That she would hold out for someone who loved her fervently, who accepted her totally, who would share his heart and soul withher.

A man like herfather.

Lily, Stella, and Sofia, quickly grew tired of the non-Christmas related excitement. They busied themselves setting out plates of cookies and pies for Santa Claus while Nico passed around glasses of champagne and Angel brought out Jenna’s Christmascake.

Nico tapped his glass and waited for everyone to growquiet.

“When I first met Farrell Black, I thought he was — as Farrell himself would say — a wanker.” Everyone laughed, even Farrell, who smiled and shook his head as Nico continued. “Little did I know it was all because he was missing something important — or more specifically, someone.”

“Aw,” the group said inunison.

Nico looked at Farrell. “My friend, we’re all glad Jenna is going to be your wife, because you were a miserable bastard withouther.”

Farrell raised his glass. “Don’t I knowit.”

Jenna stood on her toes to kisshim.

Nico’s expression grew more serious as he looked at Farrell. “Of course, this is all in good fun, but what I really want to say is that I love you like a brother.” He looked around the room. “That Angel and I love all of you likefamily.”

Jenna blinked back tears. Everyone had grown quiet, Nico’s words falling over them like the first dusting of Christmassnow.

He raised his glass. “So Farrell and Jenna… to you. And to the most important thing of all,” he said. “Family.”

The room was filled with the soft clink of crystal, the murmuring ofagreement.

Farrell turned and touched his glass to Jenna’s. “To family,” he said softly. “This one… and the one we’ll buildtogether.”

He bent to kiss her, and Isabel’s words at the zoo drifted through Jenna’smind.

… things have a way of working themselves out when there islove.
