It’s almost like the airport all those years ago, and how Neil didn’t set off the gut instinct he should have. He’s a snake, and I never even saw it. Sure, it was clear he was a bit of an alpha misogynist from the start, but I never would have expected what he did, what he got the rest to do. Mob mentality is strong, and even with only five of them, they were able to commit absolute depravity.

Somehow, I think Neil translated this subtly to Eternity. It appears normal, if not a bit seedy, but nothing out of the ordinary. And even after him fooling me once all those years ago, I wonder if he’s somehow done it again.

There’s something more to Eternity, and that curious streak in me wants to know what before we blow this place up in a few days.

Bad idea,the nagging voice says.

Just end this place and leave.

Or maybe, I can have both.

I sit on the sidelines in Dee’s usual spot and watch the first few sets, something I haven’t done previously. My eyes dart to the floor, watching the usual security wandering around their posts but not failing to notice the extra three on duty. Even for a Friday, it’s overkill.

I already noticed a bit of oddness from the girls, but I can chalk that up to losing two of their own in a week.

The clients have no idea, and I see the normal faces lapping up the sensuality without a care.

The only thing missing and notably absent is Dee.

Other than that, I see nothing out of the ordinary.

Maybe a drink would help me think?

It isn’t until I step offstage from my own set that I find Dee waiting for me on the side, standing almost exactly where I was only recently.

“Have a sec?” I ask, out of breath.

She gives me a curt nod toward the back and turns, clearly assuming I’ll follow. She’s not wrong, and I make my way into the back after her.

Lana is in the back, chatting with one of the other girls. She gives me a genuine smile as we pass. Dee walks straight by and into one of the private rooms, shutting the door behind me.

Dee says nothing, only watches me. I raise a brow.

“We missed you earlier.”

Her lips tighten. “Thank you for being there for them. I was… indisposed.”

I look at her eyes levelly. “Anything I can help with?”

She shakes her head. “No, just… club business. Nothing to concern yourself with.”

Sweat still glistens on my mostly naked body. My chest still pumps from the adrenaline of the show. Taking my water bottle, I drink deeply before crushing it into the bin and taking a seat on the couch, immediately pulling off the insane pumps with a groan.

“Oh, that’s better,” I moan, sitting back. I pat the seat beside me and give her a small smile. I see the opportunity for what it is, and I won’t hesitate to take it.

See, the voice says, some things do fall into place.

Dee looks at the spot a moment before sighing and taking a seat herself. Turning to me, she gives a wry smile.

“That is better. Didn’t realize how long I’ve been on my feet today.”

“I guess there’s a lot to deal with, you know, with Annika and all that,” I say. Dee’s head drops and I see genuine sadness.

“Yes,” is all she says.

We sit in silence for several minutes until I clear my throat, sitting forward with my elbows on my knees.

“You know, I’ve worked in a lot of different places before, as I guess you gathered,” I start with a small smirk, “Earlier, I was thinking about how you’re one of the better… managers, I’ve ever worked with.”
