"So… that day at Oreo's," I started, hinting about Nathan.

Blair looked horrified and guilty. "Yeah…"

"Nathan said some scary looking friend of yours attacked him," I muttered. The world's biggest lie... I knew it was Gid. And Nathan didn't say those words exactly, but I had to make them believe that this person had been a complete stranger.

Blair immediately got defensive, complaining about Nathan and confirming her innocence. I knew she was telling the truth, but there's always more. I just had to coax it out of her…

"I'm really worried about you, Blair. Spending all your time with gang members. I even heard a rumor that you went to the underground fighting ring and fought."

She gave me a shocked look while Quinn went berserk.

"What?!"

Blair questioned me but I brushed her off. She was deflecting, hoping to distract us from her own answer.

"Please tell me it's not true," Quinn said, glaring at Blair.

Blair gave us a sheepish look, shrugging as she chewed on a piece of pizza. "Why would I do something like that?"

I'd been asking myself that for ages, but Blair probably doesn't even know the answer herself. All we could do was play along, and see how it panned out.

It was freezing cold as I headed towards the bridge to meet Benny. The homeless were setting up for the night but they were a much better spectator option than doing this at the Hunters HQ.

"My nuts are about to fall off," Benny said as I approached. He was bundled up in a big parker jacket, smoking a cigarette.

"Thanks for meeting me. It means a lot."

He shrugged, exhaling some smoke. "Beats being stuck at home, I guess. Anyway, I got an update for you."

"Yeah?"

That excited me, gave me some form of hope. He dug into his jacket, pulling out some paperwork.

"There's been talk around the other members that Blair's family is involved. Now you and I both know her daddy's not her daddy, but apparently it's because of her mama that this trouble is happening."

I looked at him, confused. "What? Blair's mom is dead."

Benny nodded. "Yeah, but that's not the most shocking part. You won't believe this… her mom was Harmon's first wife."

"You have to be fucking kidding me," I stuttered out, no longer feeling the cold. My blood was colder, my mind exploding with the information. "Are you sure? Does that mean she's Harmon's daughter?"

I felt sick to my stomach. I could have easily leaned over and hurled my guts up but I swallowed it down.

"Nah, thank fuck. As if we need any more of his offspring running around. Don't you remember the story about Harmon killing his wife? The rumor was it was because she cheated on him with a Spade," Benny said, flicking the end of his finished smoke onto the ground and stepping on it.

I ran a hand down my face. "I don't understand. What the fuck does this all have to do with us going after Blair though?"

Benny chuckled. "Money, bro. It's always about the money. Apparently, she has a half-brother and now that she's 18, an inheritance is in play. But she's gotta be dead for the brother to get it."

"And who's the brother?" I asked, dreading the answer.

He shrugged. "Not sure yet but apparently he's known to the higher ups. They get a cut of the money but it's probably personal too. You know Harmon's an egotistical prick."

This was truly worse than I could ever possibly imagine.

I didn't sleep at all last night. I was wide awake, staring at the roof hoping the answer to my problems would magically appear.

I decided that today I was going to tell Quinn the truth. Maybe I could get her out of town for a bit. Hell, maybe I could work out something so both of them could escape.
