“How are my girls?” He rubbed my belly, kissing my lips.
“Perfect.”
“You’ve hardly made a dent in your pies,” he teased, sitting on the arm of the chair beside me.
“I’m taking my time savoring each bite.” I fluttered my lashes. “Today was perfect.”
“It would be more perfect if Mia were here so we could shower her with kisses,” Lily said. I’d never seen her like this regarding babies or children, but then, she’d said baby sweets was the exception.
I sighed dreamily. I was ready to be a mother. Will and I were blissfully happy and had settled in our new home before Valentine’s. I didn’t work as much, adhering to a strict schedule Will and I made together. I’d hired more staff too.
Even though danger could’ve been lurking in dark corners, I felt we were taking all the necessary precautions to keep those we loved safe. My life certainly wasn’t how I ever dreamed it would be. In many ways, it was better. In others, it was messy and dangerous. But with Will by my side I could handle anything. He was all I needed.
If only Lily and Simone would admit their real feelings and go after their men. I knew a bit about why Simone denied the way she felt about Axel. Will’s parents would disapprove of Simone being with him. I disagreed with their standards, but then, I honestly didn’t know how I would feel when Mia was old enough to fall in love. Thank goodness that was a long time off from now.
“What now?” Simone grumbled when her phone chimed. She swiped the screen, and her eyes bulged. As she continued to scroll, the color drained from her face.
“Sim, what is it?” Will asked, an edge in his voice.
My heart raced as I watched my sister-in-law’s hands shake. I practically felt her fear spear down my spine. Simone didn’t move or say a word as if in shock. A sick feeling in my stomach told me whatever was on her phone was traumatizing her.
“Do something,” I whispered, nudging Will with my elbow.
He snatched the phone out of Simone’s hand. Rage flashed in his eyes. “What the fuck!”
