I put my phone on the table and exhaled. Storm’s intensity was like his dad’s. I wondered if his kids would be like him or like Angel.

“Daddy, are you done on the phone?” Nova whispered at the doorway.

“Yes.” I waved her over. “What can I help you with?”

“I have a question.”

“A question? Well, come over here.” I padded my leg.

Nova skipped over, and I lifted her onto my lap. “How long do we have to stay at the farm? I miss my bedroom.”

“That’s a doozy of a question.” I stared down into the eyes that mirrored mine.

“Mhm.” She giggled, nodding her head.

She was so precious and beautiful. So much like Karma. So much like me. Six months ago, my suspicions had been confirmed: she was my daughter. All those years lost with Nova and Karma still festered in my belly. I accepted full responsibility. My actions were the reason I lost my girls. Mine and mine alone.

One day I might be able to forgive myself and let go of the past. For now, I just tried making every day the best dayeverfor my girls.

“We can’t go home until our territory is safe.” I wouldn’t lie to her. Nova was smart as hell and understood the meaning of safe and dangerous. I felt she was old enough to be straight with her. Karma disagreed, but she left it to me to teach Nova the ins and outs of MC life.

“Mommy said Uncle Buff is bringing his girlfriend here. I’m excited to meet her. This place is going to be crowded. If more people come, I’ll have to sleep in your room.” She twisted her pink lips like she didn’t like the idea of sleeping with Karma and me. I didn’t care much for it either.

“Nobody else is coming.” I rubbed her back to assure her.

“Mommy says we might as well move in. We’ve been here for months.”

“Is that right? What else did Mommy say?” My bride had been moody and emotional since the wedding. Living with my parents didn’t help. She blamed her less-than-stellar attitude on pregnancy hormones and needing her own space. I totally got it. I wanted to be in our home too, but I wouldn’t risk my girls’ lives with the Faceless Frat still up and running. Then there was the new threat with the Hell’s Bells MC. Nope, we weren’t going anywhere.

“She wishes she could decorate the nursery at our house. She never had one for me.”

A sharp pang stabbed me in the heart. I curled my arm around Nova and hugged her tight.

“I want to help her paint the room and shop for furniture, but she said there was no point buying a crib when we couldn’t be in our house. I think she’s going to order a Pack ′N Play.”

“A pack and what?” I kissed her head.

“It’s one of those portable travel playpens. It’s what I had before Mommy could get us our own place.” Someone so young shouldn’t know so much. This was why I felt comfortable telling Nova stuff. She was an old soul, wise beyond her years.

“The new baby will have a crib. My crew and I get the territory safe before the baby is born, and we’ll move home. I—”

“Nova? Grammy M is looking for you,” Karma said at the door. Her eyebrow was arched, and her lips were twisted to the side like Nova’s were not long ago.

“Okay.” She kissed me on the cheek. “Good talk, Daddy.” She hopped off my lap and darted out of the room.

Karma leaned against the door frame.

“C’mere, gorgeous.”

“You were about to promise her something you can’t guarantee. I’ve told you a dozen times, Abe, don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

“Karma, I meant what I told Nova. We’ll be in our own place before the baby is born.” I reached my hand out to her. “Close and lock the door.”

She smiled and did as I commanded.

“You’re wearing a dress today.” It went past her knees and was multi-colored. She called her style boho. I called it sexy as fuck. This dress had a deep v-neck, showing some skin. Her breasts were fuller, thanks to the pregnancy hormones she claimed to hate so much.

“You’re very observant, Abe.” She hiked up the fabric and straddled my lap.
