“Reign? Oh God, Reign, is that you, baby? He found you didn’t he? I knew he would find you. Praise God!”

“Mom, what are you talking about?”

“Jonah. Is he with you? Your father and his doubts. But I knew if anyone could find you, Jonah was the guy.”

I was stunned. Jonah had spoken to my parents? Why didn’t he tell me?

I couldn’t think about that now.

“Mom, where’s Dad?”

“Work, of course. When are you coming home, Reign?”

“I’m not sure.” I pursed my lips tight. “Maybe in a day or two.”

“Why not today?”

“I can’t explain it now. But you could come to the Knight’s farm, just don’t tell anyone where you’re going.” Okay, I sounded like a hysterical, crazy woman.

“Reign, I don’t understand. Why do you sound frightened? Are you in trouble, honey?”

This was not going as I imagined it to go.

“You need to get off.” Karma tapped her Apple watch. “Keep it short,” she whispered.

“Mom, I can’t talk anymore. Please, come to the farm. Bring Dad and Granny. It’ll be great. Please, Mom.”

“Reign, where is Jonah? I’m worried about you.”

“Dear God, I’m fine!” I shouted.

Suddenly the phone was swiped out of my hand and slammed shut.

“Who in the hell did you call?” Cobra barked.

“Abe, she called her mom,” Karma replied, going to his side. “It was only her mom.”

“How do you know it was only her mom? She could’ve called her boyfriend.” He glared at me. “Are you leading Keg to us?”

“What?” I shook my head. “No, I wouldn’t do that.”

“Right!”

“It’s true. I called my mom to warn her. She needs to get out of the house before Keg gets to her. He will kill her,” I cried.

“Oh my gosh.” Hope wrapped her arm around my shoulders. “This is serious, Cobra.”

“Don’t you think I know that?” He huffed. “I’m trying to protect all of you.”

“Abe, baby, you need to calm down.” Karma touched his arm. “She was only calling her mother. That’s not a crime.”

“Don’t tell me to calm down. This is my club, Karma.”

“I know. But don’t yell at her. I’m the one who gave her the phone and encouraged her to call her mom.” There was her badassery. “If you want to be angry with someone, be angry with me.” She stood up to Cobra like he was made of marshmallows instead of steel.

“And me.” Hope raised her hand, grimacing. “I pushed Reign into calling too.”

“Son of a bitch!” He grabbed Karma’s hand. “Don’t go anywhere.” He pointed at me with his hand holding the evil cell phone. “And no phones! Come on, Karma.” He led her out of the kitchen.
