How did Jonah put up with me before I went away to college? The man was a saint.

And an alpha hole at other times. A sexy biker god. A man who had worshiped me when we were together. He loved me deeply, treated me with respect, and was my best friend.

And I had disrespected him. Slapped him. And accused him of being a rapist, in a roundabout way. Of course, he took off. Why would he want to stay with me?

A quiet knock at the door had me rushing to it. I flung it open and deflated.

“Oh, Karma.”

“Not who you hoped? Sorry.”

“That’s okay. Come in.”

She entered and looked around. “Jeez. This place looks frozen in time.”

I followed her gaze. She was right. Everything in Jonah’s room reminded me of when we were together, right down to the same printed Vikings sheets. Jonah loved football, and the Minnesota Vikings were his team.

“At least Lady M ran a tight ship here. You don’t have to worry about other women being in his bed. Sex isn’t allowed under Lady M’s roof.” Karma turned to face me. “All joking aside. How are you?” She sat on the edge of the bed.

“Were you sent here to question me?”

She popped her shoulders. “Maybe. Abe thinks I’m giving you a lecture about being a good, loyal, and obedient old lady. You know, a woman-to-woman discussion about how to be the best partner for your biker.”

“And ready for sex at the drop of a hat?”

“Yes, and that.” She rolled her eyes. “Men wouldn’t have to worry about us wanting sex if they made us feel desired and cherished. A loving woman doesn’t manipulate or make her man work to get her to spread her legs. She always wants him to jump her bones because she can’t get enough of him because of the way he loves her.”

“Preach, sister.” I nodded, feeling guilt creeping in.

“So, what happened? I mean, I heard he was angry you called your mom. Sorry we got you into trouble.”

“You didn’t. Well, you sort of did, but I had wanted to call my parents long before you offered the burner phone.” I honestly thought using the phone would be okay. I should’ve waited to ask Jonah. This was his house, his club helping me, and I should’ve respected his authority.

“Well, his reaction was over the top. He’s usually so calm and controlled.” She crossed her leg over her knee and rocked her foot.

“He didn’t leave over the burner phone.” I admired her blue and black suede ankle boots. I needed a distraction from the growing ache in my chest. The shoes had a patch design, similar to something you’d see in the seventies.

“Really? Then why?”

“I’m ashamed to say. I was awful to him.” I hung my hand. “No, we were awful to each other. We were both wrong, but me more than him.”

“Oh my gosh, spill the tea, girlie. What you say won’t leave this room. I promise.”

“I asked if he became a rapist after I left.”

Karma’s jaw dropped, showing her shock. “You, what?”

I didn’t recall her being so dramatic. “I feel horrible about, truly disgusted with myself. It was a heated moment. Emotions were high. I shouldn’t have said it.”

“Girl, I don’t even know what to say.” She stood, then sat back down. “Is there a reason why you’d say that to him?”

“Because of my capture.”

Karma stared at me for a long second, then flew off the bed and wrapped her arms around me. “Reign, I am so sorry. Cobra hasn’t given me any details about where you were or with who. I had no idea you’d been assaulted.”

“I don’t think he realizes.” I hugged her back. The physical touch soothed my hurting soul. “Jonah hadn’t known until my comment because I referenced Keg.”

“Keg?”
