Tears filled her eyes as he slipped the ring onto her finger. It was beautiful. She shot a glance at Laura. It was one of her designs. In fact, when she really looked at it through her tears, she realized it was the one she’d admired in Laura’s store a few weeks ago.

Cameron wrapped her in his arms and dropped his head to kiss her. Everything else faded away. When he kissed her, it felt like they were alone in the world, and they were all they needed.

When they finally surfaced, Chelsea laughed. “Welcome back to planet earth. Now, can you put her down for a minute, so we can all get a hug?”

She elbowed Cameron out of the way and hugged Piper. “Welcome to the family.”

Piper hugged her back. “Thank you.”

She couldn’t stop smiling the whole evening. She couldn’t believe that this was going to be her family. She loved them all.

Cameron squeezed her hand as they sat at the dinner table. “I said I’d ask you when we left, but I’ll do it now. Do you see yourself feeling like you belong in a house like this?”

She nodded happily. “I already do. I love your family.”

He nodded. “I do too, and even more so now that you’re going to be a part of it.”

Smoke smiled at them. “Are you going to have a problem working for your husband, Piper? Do we need to keep things the way they are?”

Piper nodded. “Yes, please.”

Laura and Chelsea exchanged a look. “Wise move,” said Chelsea. “Never surrender your independence for a man. Even if he’s your husband.”

“Especially if he’s your husband,” added Laura. “No offense, Cam.”

“None taken.”

“Maybe not by him.” Smoke scowled at Laura, but she just laughed.

“How long do you think you’d survive if I were to work for you?”

He smirked. “Yeah. Good point.” He smiled at Piper. “Let’s keep things going as they are, huh?”

She nodded.

Cameron slid his arm around her shoulders and planted a kiss in her hair.

“So, will you move here?” asked Mary Ellen. “I hope so.”

Piper looked at Cam. She didn’t know what he was thinking, and it didn’t seem right to voice her sadness at leaving Sumer Lake completely.

He smiled at her. “I think my future wife has grown quite attached to a certain small town by a lake.”

She smiled back. He did understand, then.

“But if you’re both going to be working here …” began Chelsea.

Cameron smiled. “I was thinking we might need a vacation house. So Piper can get back to her lake, and so we can visit Cole and Laura whenever we like.” He tightened his arm around her shoulders. “What do you think? There’s a house I know you love that’s going to be up for sale.”

She stared at him. Did he really mean it?

He raised his eyebrows. “We could buy it. Call it a wedding gift to ourselves. What do you say?”

She nodded eagerly and reached up to plant a kiss on his lips. “I say you really are too good to be true.” ;
