He chuckles and the feeling of that familiar sound soothes me.

“Definenever.”

“Since middle school, approximately.”

He growls.

“And I’ve never seen this? Damn, I’m blind!”

“Nobody knew.”

“Not even him?” he asks.

I shake my head.

“You miss him?”

“You might not like the answer,” I say.

“I don’t like anything about this. Especially not to see you like this because of him. He just deserves I kick his ass for everything he’s done.”

“Don’t bring him into this!” I exclaim.

He laughs and passes his two hands over the top of his head, slightly lifting the bottom of the T-shirt he wears under his jacket.

“You’re both annoying me!”

I shrug my shoulders nonchalantly and he walks towards me to pull me to him. His fingers go to the back of my neck, and he forces me into his chest.

“Forgive me, Scar. For everything.”

I sniffle, feeling the tears sting my eyes.

“I love you, little sister, whatever you do.”

“I’m sorry,” I sob into his arms.

I grab the back of his jacket and hold him tighter. “I didn’t want to disappoint you.”

“You never disappointed me.”

He kisses the top of my head then shifts.

“I’m eating here tonight. Is that okay?”

“This is your home.”

He smiles at me and leaves my room. All my muscles relax the second the door closes, but the tears keep flowing. It’s not sadness this time, but the joy of knowing that my brother is back. To see again the trust in his features and the affection in his eyes. I tie my hair up in a quick ponytail, avoiding thinking about the one person who hasn’t been counted among this reunion and praying inwardly that time will bring them both together. I sigh and as I’m about to leave my room, the door opens again.

My heart plummets from my chest and crashes to the floor. I stand in the middle of the room, unable to take my eyes off the figure that has entered. Dark circles under his eyes, messy curls, and choppy breathing, Nolan watches me for a second before closing the door behind him.

“Edgar is downstairs,” I whisper.

“I know.”

His deep voice sets a thousand butterflies loose in my stomach, destroying everything in their path.

I missed him so much.
