“It’s going to take more thanthat,” I joke.

His playful gaze makes me smile and he comes closer to my ear to whisper, “Do you want me on my knees?”

I nod, unable to say an intelligible sentence as I feel his presence. His body against me, his hand on my waist, his mouth on my ear, his breath on my neck, his smell.Everywhere.

“Apparently, those who say the most are those who do the least. Want me to show you,Scar, how much I love you?”

His face pulls back and this time he stops inches from my mouth. The tip of his tongue glides over my lips.

“I can show you for hours.”

“A lot of talk, Mr. Jones,” I manage to breathe out.

“You’re right, I think it’s time for action.”

He presses his mouth against mine and everything explodes. His tongue slips in to find mine and my legs wobble. His arm wraps around my waist, supporting me firmly as he kisses me. His kiss is urgent. Fiery. Passionate. It’s weeks of absence, of silence, of lack that he’s trying to make disappear at a breathless pace.

And at that momentI knowwhy I fell in love with him.

Because it’s always beenhim.

Epilogue

Scarlett

“Let me help you!”

Edgar pushes the door with his foot and grabs the box I have in my arms. I enter the apartment and let myself be overwhelmed by a sudden flush of heat.

It’s my home.

With a smile on my face, I stare at my brother who wanders around the living room to drop the box off in a corner.

“Moving in for ten years, Scar?”

My heart skips a beat and I turn to the deep voice behind me. Leaning against a door frame, Nolan looks at me from head to toe. With that look that makes me want to give him the moon.

“At least ten years,” I say hoarsely.

Not by stress. Not from sadness. No, with immeasurable joy. Something that surges through my veins as I watch him observe me with a proud, sweet smile.

“Well, can you wait until I leave before doing all this?” asks my brother.

I jump and turn to my brother who is grimacing, waving his finger between Nolan and me. I burst out laughing and he rolls his eyes.

“My God, I’m going to be safe in Montreal, far from all this disgusting love.”

“You’re going to be bored without us,” jokes Nolan. “Without your annoying little sister and your best friends!”

“You can be annoying too,” I say, giving him the finger.

Edgar laughs.

“What time are you leaving?” I ask.

“My plane leaves tonight. The time to help you settle in, I’m off to pick up my suitcase at the parent’s place in an hour.”

My chest tightens. Because I know that my brother is leavingfor the Montreal Canadiens where he signed a contract with the NHL team and that I won’t be seeing him so often. No more roommates, no more years of bickering at my parents’ house, no more getting mad at each other because he behaves as if I were 12 when we have only a year apart. No more fights, hugs, or moments of complicity. He’s going to moose country, where it’s cold, where it snows six months of the year and where I’m not likely to go every week. I swallow a sob and feel a hand land on the small of my back.
