“To be honest? No. I’ve never been so sure about something in my life.” I slapped his back.

When we stood in front of the crowd, I searched for Davina. I almost missed her because, at first, I’d been looking for her wild hair, but when I found her, I could barely take my eyes off her. Suddenly, I realized what Alex was saying. He wasn’t nervous because he knew. He had trusted his gut, and as I stared at her, I knew I was going to do that too.

She was mine, and I was going to prove it to her.

When Lexi came down the aisle, she looked amazing but nowhere as beautiful as Davina. I wanted to see Davina walking down the aisle in a long white dress, and that thought should have scared the crap out of me, but it didn’t.

I forced myself to pay attention to the ceremony and let my gaze stray a few times. Each time, I would find Davina watching Alex and Lexi, but she would glance my way and catch me. She knew I was looking at her, and I’d smile or wink at her, causing a blush to creep along her cheeks a couple of times.

I was glad when the ceremony was over, and we filed out to greet the guests. Davina came down the line, shaking hands and receiving kisses on the cheek. Jake had kissed her cheek and then grinned at me. My fists tightened at my side, and then she was in front of me.

“Hi,” I breathed toward her.

“Hi,” she replied almost as breathlessly. I couldn’t help myself and leaned down to claim her lips briefly. She seemed surprised but not unhappily so.

“I’ll see you in a few minutes,” I told her as I passed her on to Clare, who hugged her tightly and giggled.

Davina hugged Alex and Lexi and then stepped out of line so others could greet them and wish them well. The minute I could slip out of the line unnoticed, I made a beeline toward her, putting my arm tightly around her as she spoke to another guest.

She put her hand over mine on her hip and slipped her other arm around my waist. When she glanced up at me, I lifted her chin higher with a couple of fingers, placing another kiss on her lips.

I kept her right beside me—the two of us not speaking, just being side by side, touching gently, holding one another—until I had to step away for pictures. I wished that we didn’t still have hours here, but I couldn’t leave. As much as I wanted to be alone with Davina, I did want to share the rest of this day with the happy couple.

Pictures were taken, snacks and drinks were shared, and then I had to part with her again for a little while before the reception. They wanted me to ride in the limo over to the reception hall, and I handed Davina my keys. “You don’t mind driving it over, do you?”

“Not at all,” she’d replied.

I missed her when she left and couldn’t wait to have her back with me. It was the longest forty-five minutes of my life, and I wanted to smack myself at the realization.

When the wedding party was announced at the reception, I did my part, having a quick dance with Clare before I found my way to my table where Davina was sitting patiently, looking elegant and sexy as hell as she sipped from a champagne glass.

Dinner was a fun affair, and after we finished, I propped my arm along the back of her chair. She leaned into my arm, and I adjusted my seat so that I was closer to her.

After the dance floor had officially opened, and the bride and groom took center stage for another dance, I kissed Davina’s temple. “Dance with me.”

She turned surprised eyes my way. “You dance?”

I laughed. “Yes, I dance. Come on. I’ll show you.”

When she stood, I took her hand and led her onto the dance floor, pulling her into my arms and holding her close as the music drifted around us. I enjoyed the feel of her in my arms, the way it felt so right.

“I owe you an apology,” I said, and she tilted her head back so she could see my face, a confused expression covering her features.

“An apology?”

“Yes. Earlier when I picked you up, I told you that you looked very pretty. That was a major understatement, Davina.”

Her brows jumped, and her lips parted, but she didn’t speak.

“I should have told you that you looked utterly amazing. You took my breath away.”

“I did?”

“Yes, I couldn’t even think straight or form the right words to explain it.” She blinked rapidly for a moment, and I cupped her cheek. “Davina Daniels, you look amazing tonight, and I am so glad that you are here with me.”

“You are?”

I nodded slowly, rubbing my knuckles over her cheek. “Yes. I have to admit that when I did first see you tonight, I also thought about getting you out of that dress.”
