She squeezed my forearm once and then slowly let it go. I watched her hand drift back to her leg and then stared at her thigh. She was wearing shorts, and she had toned thighs that made my hands itch to touch.

I began to lift my gaze, taking in the t-shirt that she wore and the swell of her small breasts under it. I swallowed again as I got to her neck and fought not to dive toward it. As my gaze reached her face, she stared at me, her lips parted, her bright-brown eyes wide.

Before I could think, I sidestepped, and she shifted her legs wider to allow me to fit between them fully. She remained still, waiting patiently for me to do something. For two seconds, we stared at one another, and then I curled my hand around her neck, pulling her forward.

Her arms wrapped around my shoulders as our lips met, and she opened immediately, swirling her tongue against mine. She shifted her body, pressing her chest against mine as the kiss deepened, and I felt myself falling into her.

I hadn’t kissed a woman in many years. It unleashed a passion and need that I hadn’t felt in way too long. She whimpered slightly as she squeezed me tighter to her body, and my hands roamed over her back, aching to touch more.

I slipped my mouth off hers, moving it down to her neck as she leaned back, a sigh leaving her lips as I tasted her salty skin. One of her hands clenched a fistful of my hair, holding me against her throat as I nibbled softly.

Her legs locked around my waist, and I pressed my hips against her as fire fueled my blood.

“Whoops!” A voice behind us startled us both, and I jerked back, instantly reaching around to unlock Nolan’s ankles. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt,” Kayley said.

I glanced at my sister, who was grinning from ear to ear as I shifted away. I stood in front of my computer to hide my now tight jeans. Holy crap, what had I been thinking?

I hadn’t been thinking. For once, I had been feeling, and all that I had felt just made me want to feel more. Damn, Kayley, for her interruption, but at the same time, I was glad that she had. The last thing I needed to do was have crazy unprotected sex with this woman on her warped kitchen counter. God, when was the last time I carried a condom with me? It must have been fifteen years since I’d tucked one of those little squares in my wallet.

“What are you doing here?” Nolan asked her as she hopped off the counter and approached my sister. Was that a bit of tension in her words for being interrupted?

“You left the counter and cabinet swatches at home. I thought you might need it while you two are working on your kitchen.”

“Oh, crap! You’re right. We need them. We aren’t to that part yet, so I hadn’t realized. Thank you.”

“I’ll leave you to your work,” Kayley said. “Have fun, Brad!”

“Bye, Kay,” I remarked over my shoulder, not looking at her. I didn’t need to see the I-told-you-so look in her eye.

I heard the two of them speaking quietly by the front door, and then the door clicked closed.

Nolan returned and put her hand on my back. “So—where were we?”

I laughed slightly. “We were going to discuss the placement of your appliances.”

She hopped back onto the counter. “I don’t think that is the placement we were working on.”

I pursed my lips, inhaled through my nose, and then looked at her after I released it. “But we should be talking about the placement of your appliances.”

She tilted her head to the side. “Does it bother you that your sister saw you kissing me?”

“No,” I said, but I averted my eyes because it did bother me.

“Yes, it did. Why? Why would kissing another single woman be a problem?”

“Because you are her friend, Nolan.”

“So, she told me she didn’t have any problems with me sleeping with you.”

I jerked back slightly. “You talked to my sister about us having sex? Don’t you think that was a little premature?”

She shook her head. “No. I asked her because I didn’t want to step over any lines in our friendship. If she had said she wasn’t comfortable with it, I wouldn’t have brought it up to you again.”

“Again?”

“I told you yesterday that I’d be willing to sleep with you.”

“Nolan, I’m sorry.” I closed the computer and retreated as I picked it up. “I don’t think I can help you. You’re a smart woman, so I’m sure you can figure it out on your own.”
