“You’re going to leave because I talked to your sister about having sex with you?”

“No, I’m going to leave because sex between us is not going to happen. I was wrong to kiss you, wrong to come here when I knew this might happen.”

She hopped off the counter and glared up at me. “Then why did you?”

“Because part of me thought I might be making it all up, and there was no way you’d be interested in someone like me.”

“I’m interested in having sex with someone like you,” she retorted.

“Yeah, but I don’t just have sex, Nolan.”

She crossed her arms over her chest. “Fine.” I watched her for a moment as several emotions flitted over her face. Finally, she sighed. “I owe you an apology.”

“No, you don’t.”

“I do. I was very forward, but I told you before that it’s been a while since I was attracted to someone. I thought maybe that was reciprocated.”

“It is,” I told her without thinking, then added, “But that doesn’t mean that I can just have sex with you because I’m in the mood. I wasn’t brought up like that. I have relations with people that I care about.”

She nodded. “Alright, I will accept that, but will you please stay and help me? I could use your assistance, and I promise that I will behave myself.”

I wasn’t sure she was capable of that, but I wanted to stay.

“I promise I will not make any more innuendos or tempt you anymore.”

Well, that was a lie. The woman was a walking temptation. “Alright, as long as you promise.”

She gave me a sly smile. “Although, you have to admit, that kiss was pretty damn good.”

I laughed as I shook my head. “Yeah, I guess it was.”

“Just guess? Come on, that kiss had to have made your top ten at least.”

“Well, considering the fact that I have probably only kissed seven or eight females in my life that way, that would be true.”

Her eyes popped out of her head. “Are you serious?”

“Yes. I told you. I wasn’t brought up to sleep around. I only kissed women I was involved with.”

“Wow, okay. Then I’m happy to tell you that I have kissed more than ten men before, and you are still in my top ten.”

I chuckled. “I guess that is nice to hear.”

“So, get your computer back up, and let’s put some appliances into my kitchen, shall we?”

“That we can do.” I set the computer back on the countertop, and within a few moments, she was all business. As we discussed counters and locations, she walked around and pointed things out while I worked on the computer. We figured out the area of everything, along with where new pipes would need to go and electrical wiring would have to be run.

Ninety minutes later, we had a rendering of her kitchen and she stood beside me grinning at the screen. “I love it!”

“It looks pretty awesome. Not much that I would have done differently.”

She stared up at me. “What would you have done differently?”

“Probably different cabinets and counters.” I pointed to the booklets she had lying on the counter that Kayley had dropped off. “I’d go for something a bit more rustic, but I like what you chose.”

“You think more rustic would be better?”

“That’s my taste, not yours. This house has a very rustic feel to it, especially with some of the things you have said you were going to do with it.”
