I tried to smile because he was right, but I just wasn’t sure that I wasn’t missing something.I had always relied on my gut instincts, and something was churning slowly in my gut.
“How about we eat and then check on Briella?”
“I need to do a few things but give me thirty minutes, then we can do that.”
He pulled my hand and brought me to my feet.“Nothing is going to change in the next hour, and you can return after we eat and see your daughter.Because I am well aware that thirty minutes means two hours by your clock.”
I chuckled.“You know me so well.”
He stood and took my face in his palms.“I do, and I love you so much that it hurts sometimes.”
“I know,” I replied before I let him pull me into his arms and kiss me for a few moments.
He took my hand and began to pull me away from my desk.“Come on, let’s go eat.Tell Isaac to bring Briella up to us.He can eat and rest while we have her.”
“Fine.”I sighed dramatically, but more for effect than any other reason.If I chose to spend time with my family or do work, I would always prefer to be with my family.Sadly, the work was required.
Over the meal, I held a content Briella in my arms, and Zander cut my meat so that I could eat one-handed.She cooed and smiled at the people around the table, and when the meal was over, I was sad to put her in Zander’s arms to return to my office.
On the wall of my office, I had blueprints of the White House.Once inside, I stared at those as I searched for the most accessible point of entry.They had a lot of security there, but of course, they would.It was the most guarded building in the country in standard times.With the current circumstances, it was even more so.
What if we caused a disturbance someplace else?What if we positioned most of our warriors in an area that wasn’t so heavily guarded, and the humans needed to shift some of these people to help them?Would they do that?
It might work.However, I had no idea of the number of reserves that they had on hand.They might have battalions of other military members who could move into action.Once upon a time, the military only fought outside of our country.I never thought I would see the day when they fought within.Would we have enough people to deal with them?
If we divided their attention, we would only need a few minutes to get past the others protecting the White House.Were Zander and I strong enough to hold them off or freeze them so that we could get in?Maybe we were.I had stopped many people in their tracks several times, but could I do something as significant as the White House?I wasn’t so sure about that.
Maybe we should try it here.We had over eight hundred people in this compound.Possibly if Zander and I focused carefully, we could freeze them all.I would have to speak with Zander about that and perhaps try it.
As if thinking of him brought him to me, Zander stepped into my office.“Isaac has Briella again.”He smiled, knowing I was going to ask where she was.
“Thank you.”
“What are you working on?”
“Well, I was trying to figure out the best way to gain entry to the White House.They have a lot of manpower on it, but I thought if we caused a ruckus someplace else, maybe they would divert some of them there.”
“Possibly.”
“Zander, do you think that we would be strong enough to freeze everyone here in the compound?I am trying to figure out if I’d have enough power to freeze everyone in that building.”
“How many people are you talking about?”
“Well, on any given day, there have been fifteen hundred to two thousand people in or around the building.”
“Whoa, that’s a lot of people to stop.”
“Yeah, I know.I think we need to see just how many I can do.”
“Then let’s try it.If you have my power working with yours, maybe it won’t be a problem.Maybe it’s not the number of people but the distance that would be an issue.That building is large.”
“I know.That is something else to consider.Let’s go talk to Rane and see if he can help us with a little test.”
Out in the command center, we pulled Rane to our side.“Rane, we need to try something.I want to attempt to freeze everyone in the compound, but I will need you to tell me if I reach everyone.Maybe you can put all the hallways on the screens so we can see the reach of my compulsion.”
“I can do that, but why?”
“I need to see if I have the capability to do a building the size of the White House.”
