His brows rose, and he nodded.“Alright, let me put the screens up.”

Rane went to speak to one of the workers, and then one by one, the virtual screens changed to show the hallways and key places in the compound. At this time of day, there were people just about everywhere, and this would give us an idea if it was working and if we were strong enough to do this.

“Rane, stand near me, and I am going to need you to touch me.I want to make sure that you remain free so you can watch the terminals.”

He stood beside us, his hand on my shoulder blade as I turned to face Zander.“Alright, here goes nothing.”I put my hands up, and Zander replicated my pose; we linked our fingers, and I closed my eyes, imagining the entire compound from top to bottom.I took a deep breath. Then my power began to center and grow as I pulled from Zander.

“Freeze, all but us,” I whispered the words softly and felt a cool breeze blow from me outward.I remained focus and heard Rane chuckle.

“It’s working,” he said in a hushed voice.“This floor and the two below are done.”

I focused on his voice, visualizing the upper floors, and Rane told us as we reached the ones above us, one by one.

“A little more, Kristin,” he encouraged, and I pushed harder, feeling sweat break out on my forehead.

“You got this, Kris,” Zander whispered.

“I need more!”I said hurriedly as I felt myself getting stuck.Suddenly, a wave of power filled me from Zander. It was like he had flipped a switch.

“Whoa!”Rane said, his voice filled with awe.“You got it!All of it!”

I opened my eyes and blinked. Not only was I glowing in a pale white, but Zander was glowing a bright blue. Our power was ebbing and flowing around us in a neon pulse.Zander glanced around us and then winked at me.

We turned to check the screens and saw people in all positions, frozen, as if pieces of art.

“Now, how long can we keep them there?”I asked nobody in particular.

Zander shrugged.“Who knows.”

Zander kept one hand entwined but let go of the other as we studied the screens. For fifteen minutes, there was no movement.

“I think that is enough time for us to get in.Don’t you?”Zander asked.

“Yeah, I think so.”I chuckled.“Now, let’s see what happens when we break it.”

I closed my eyes again and focused on the building, finding the pulsing energy in the air around us.“Unfreeze,” I whispered, and power blasted out from us again.I opened my eyes to see the people begin to move. Most of them were confused by what had just happened.

Zander chuckled.“Maybe you need to make an announcement about why they weren’t able to move.”

I hugged Zander tightly. This could work. Please God, let this work.
