Chapter Thirty-Three

Angelina

Iwasn’t happy to have to stay with Portage, but if that’s what Kristin needed, then I would. At least Hugh would be with me.Two days after she left, Hugh was back to himself and wholly healed.

Corbin, Hugh, and I had spent a few hours watching the human-turned train with their powers, and I had to admit that I was pretty impressed. Many could control air, and two could manifest fire. That was a heady responsibility since the fire could kill us, but they seemed to have it under control.

In a few more days, we’d have the additional human-turned from the compound, and we could work with them to get them up to speed.Kristin mentioned that she might send Olivia and Gabe with them so that all the human-turned we had were working together.

It would be nice to see Olivia again. Our history was deeply entwined since I was the one to sire her so many years ago. After hooking up with them several months ago, Olivia and I hadn’t had a chance to catch up.Maybe now we would.

The only snafu in this whole situation was what to do about Corbin and Hugh.It had weighed heavily on my mind, and I knew that both wondered when I was going to bring it up.

Mealtime had just finished, and Corbin and Hugh sat with me at the table, talking about the camp in Detroit.Corbin did most of the talking while Hugh asked questions, and I sat there comparing the two men.

Hugh was everything that I had ever wanted, and since the moment I had tasted his blood, I had craved him.I loved his authoritarian nature and his ability to stare you down until you started talking to get rid of the silence.I also loved the taste of his blood, and the sex had been fantastic with him the few times that we had given in to the lust.

On the other hand, Corbin was visibly calmer, not quite as easily angered—no doubt that had to do with all the years of his life.He was much older than Hugh, more powerful, and he was of a solid bloodline, being Alex’s son.Not to mention that sex wasn’t bad either—not by a long shot.

I hated that I needed to make a choice, and since the night that Hugh had mentioned that he wanted to find another reborn female for Corbin, I had been hedging on letting Corbin go quite so quickly.

My biggest concern was that my powers might change, and what if I wasn’t as strong with Hugh as I was with Corbin?Could I chance that now?Would I be stronger mated to Hugh?It was impossible to know.

Greedily, I desired them both, and while Hugh was more outspoken about the way he felt for me, I knew that Corbin desired me greatly.Maybe that desire was only in the bedroom.Or perhaps he hungered for the power as much as I did, and that is what kept him interested.I couldn’t judge him for that since I, too, longed for the power.

The three of us finished dinner, and as we headed to the elevator, I wondered how best to choose between them.I was almost to the point that I thought I might have to flip a freaking coin.Heads I go to Hugh, tails I stay with Corbin. What would Hugh think of that if I did?Would he be pissed? He couldn’t go back to Kris, not now, so what would become of him if I did that?

As we stepped into the elevator, I almost laughed.I wish I could speak with my sister, but then again, what would she say?She would tell me to follow a combination of my heart and my gut.Well, Hugh had my heart, but as I glanced at Corbin and he smiled and winked a light-green eye at me, I realized that he had part of it too.

Upstairs, the two men continued their conversation, and we all went to my suite.Due to the situation with the two men, I had asked Portage for another suite. That way, all three of us had different rooms, and I wouldn’t be tempted to do something I might regret. That alone was a different way of thinking for me.I’d always been an impulsive person, so what changed?

I poured myself a drink after we entered and I heard the two men get seated. When I turned around, they were both watching me.“What?”

“Want to share what’s on your mind?”Corbin asked.

Hugh continued.“You’ve been lost inside your own locked head all evening.”

“I have been, and no, I don’t particularly want to talk about it.”

They shared a look. Were Corbin and Hugh speaking to one another?Probably.

“I think I know what it is,” Hugh stated as he leaned back on the sofa and laid his arm along the back of the blue fabric.

“Are you going to enlighten me to your thoughts?”I asked as I took a chair off to the side.

I was staring at Hugh, but Corbin spoke next.“You are trying to figure out which one of us to mate with.”

“I’m already mated to you, Corby,” I stated, and he laughed. He hated when I called him that.

“You are, Angel.”And likewise with my nickname.I shook my head and averted my gaze as I drank from my glass.

“The way I see it,” Hugh stated, “is that you want to be with me, but right now, you are afraid to break your mating with Corbin because of the power you have. He’s older, stronger, and wiser than me.”

“Very astute,” I told him.

“But at the same time,” Corbin went on, “You want Hugh because you love him.You might care for me, but your heart is more involved with him.”

“Look at that, another smart man.”I smirked at Corbin.
