“It does affect them!You know that no one says no to you because they are afraid of you, and the one person who does want you, you won’t even touch!”
I laughed slightly.“Yeah, and who is it that you think wants me so badly?”
“Corbin!Although you are not worthy of him.He deserves someone so much more than you!You’re a monster!”
That made me laugh harder.“I hate to break it to you, Marissa, but we are all monsters.We drink blood and kill people for what we want.”
“You’re disgusting!You sleep with everyone and pull Corbin around behind you while he waits for scraps of attention from you.”
I pushed my nose up against hers as my back went ramrod straight.“You know nothing about it, and I suggest you shut the fuck up.”
“Whoa—whoa—whoa!”Corbin’s voice broke in as he put a hand between us and shifted us apart.“You guys do know that I am standing right here, right?”He paused as he looked between us.“Marissa, I don’t know what the hell you are talking about, but you need to back off.”
She turned her anger on him.“Are you kidding me, Corbin?You watch every step she takes.I can feel your desire for her swarming around you every time you do, and she doesn’t even give you the time of day.You deserve better!”
I laughed, a tinkling sound in the tense air.“And you think you can give him what he deserves?What he needs?I don’t think so, Marissa.Be careful what you ask for.”
“I could give him more than you could, and obviously, you don’t want him, so break whatever spell you made on him and let him go.Or better yet, leave yourself!”
“I never said I didn’t want him, Marissa,” I replied, and Corbin’s face snapped toward mine.I ignored him as I continued.“I actually want him more than air.I crave him—body and blood—but I have restraint, something you obviously seem to lack.”
As Corbin sucked in a sharp breath, I realized what I had just said and winced slightly.God, I can’t believe I just admitted that to a group of people.
“Okay, people, let’s calm down.”Gideon tried to diffuse the situation, and I spun and began to walk off.“Angelina!Where are you going?We aren’t done!”
I waved a hand in the air.“Yeah, well, I am.You can fill me in later.”I was out the door a fraction of a second later.I half expected Corbin or Gideon to be on my heels, but neither of them was.
I went back to my room and began to pace.I was frustrated with myself for admitting my desires.Even more frustrated with my sister and this whole situation.I was finally calming down when I felt him approaching.Ever since I’d tasted Corbin, I’d been walking a fine line and had avoided talking to him one-on-one.I didn’t think I was going to be able to avoid it this time.
There was a knock at my door, and I sighed and sank onto the edge of the bed, putting my hands into my face as my long hair made a curtain around my head.A moment later, the door opened, and I felt him enter.A few seconds later, the scent of his blood permeated the air, and my fangs tingled in my jaw.
“You should leave.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Corbin, you don’t know what you are saying.”
I heard him walk toward me, and he came to stand in front of me.I stared at the scuffed toes of his black boots.My fangs were pounding in my jaw to be released and attack him.
“I do know what I’m saying, Angelina.I know it might not be what you want.I get that.I don’t know much about you, and I don’t know if there is someone else in your life or not.I do know that you and me being together would be smart, and you could help me remember who I am or who I was before.”
I rubbed my face as I sat up, weary for having held back so long and not wanting to fight it.
“I do have someone else,” I finally said as I looked up at him.“Someone that I love.”
“Then why aren’t you with him?”
I burst to my feet and stepped away from him.“Because it’s complicated.”
He was right there behind me, saying softly, “What’s so complicated about it?Does he not love you?”
“He does, or at least he used to.”
“Then why is he not with you?If you were mine, I wouldn’t ever let you leave.”
I laughed so that I wouldn’t burst into tears as I turned to face him.“Because he’s with my sister.”
He gave me a perplexed look.“What?”
