Gideon didn’t look very happy, and a couple of people seemed surprised as I flashed them a smile and began to turn.“Nice to meet you all, ta-ta.”

I didn’t stop until I was out of there, and then I found Gideon rushing after me.“Sorry about that, Angelina. They aren’t all assholes.”

I laughed.“A few of them are more than assholes.”

He grinned.“Yeah, a few of them are.”

I heard the door lock as we walked away, and we went down another hallway before we came to an open door.Gid held his hand out for me to proceed and I stepped into the room. There was a large bed, a dresser, a couple of chairs, and a table, but not much else.

“You can stay in here as long as you want. It’s not decorated very much, but you’re welcome to scavenge through the apartment building across the street for anything you might want to add to make it yours. The room has a bathroom in the back and a makeshift shower. This used to be a shoe store, so there was a bathroom, but we had to create an area for a shower.”

“Okay, thank you.”

“Do you want me to have some clean clothes brought up to you?”

I shook my head.“No.I have some of my own.”I dropped my backpack onto the bed and glanced around. This was the closest I had come to a place I could call mine.Man, did I miss my opulent apartment at the top of the hotel in Philadelphia.

He glanced at his watch.“Why don’t you take a shower, and then I’ll show you where we eat.”

“It’s been a while since I had one.”

“What?A shower?”I nodded, and then he smirked and raised his scarred eyebrow.“Need someone to wash your back?I can grab one of the guys if you do.”

I laughed.“Maybe next time.”

“I’m here for whatever you need, Angelina.”

Except washing my back, obviously.“Thank you, Gideon.”

“You’re welcome, Angelina. My room is right next door.I’m going to talk to the guys for a little while. Then I’ll either be there or in my room.”

I thanked him again and watched him leave. The large glass windows had makeshift curtains, and I pulled them across the glass to give myself some privacy as he walked away.

I dug around in my pack to find another set of clothes and then found the small bathroom.I stared at the shower cubical that had been erected just outside of the original bathroom. The faucet above was old and pitted, but I didn’t care about aesthetics as long as it worked.I began to unwind the long hair I wore up to hide the length and combed my hands through the tresses.

I found shampoo and soap in the shower and sighed in relief when I stepped under the faucet. The water pressure wasn’t very strong, but it was hot, and that was good.I took my time showering, enjoying the feeling of clean hair and skin, and then I turned the water off and realized that I didn’t have a towel.

Well, shit!I squeezed my hair as much as I could to remove most of the excess water and then began to dress. It was hard to get my clothes on with a wet body, but I wasn’t going to complain because I was clean for the first time in weeks.I almost wished I had accepted clean clothes, as these had been worn previously.

Once dressed, I gathered my dirtier clothes and stepped into the bedroom, coming up short when I found Corbin reclining on the bed and staring at the ceiling.

He slowly turned his head toward me, his eyes running to my toes and back up.“Enjoy your shower?”

“I did.Did you come to give me another warning?”

His gaze slipped over my body again.“No.Gid had to take care of something. He asked me to wait for you and then bring you down to eat.”

“Sorry that you got stuck babysitting,” I said as I dropped my clothes onto the bed and dug around in my bag for the brush.

“I’m not babysitting.”He laughed and proceeded to watch me work at the tangles in my hair.

“You don’t have to sit here and watch. You can give me directions, and I can meet Gideon down there in a little while.”

“Nah, I’d rather wait.”

I pulled my brush from my hair and stared at him.“Why?”

“Because I have nothing better to do.”
