"Is there anything I can help you with?"

"I-I… I love a woman," Isaac said, being his candid, easygoing self.

The woman smiled. "A wedding set, perhaps, then?"

Isaac made a face like that was not what he was thinking. "No. Not yet. I just figured out I love her."

"Oh, oh, oh, maybe a necklace or a promise ring? Do either of those sound more like it?"

"Yes. Both, please."

"Okay, I'll show you some of each of those. Right this way."

The lady checked on her other customers, but they were browsing, so she focused her attention on Isaac.

"These are the promise rings," she said. Isaac started to ask her what exactly a promise ring meant, but honestly, he didn't care. He thought of Ari and the way she danced, and the possessive side of him wanted to put as much 'promise' jewelry on her body as possible.

"I like this one," he said, pointing at the best one of the bunch. There was a larger diamond in the center with smaller diamonds lining the band. It was dainty and sweet, and he knew it would be amazing on Ari. "I don’t know what size she wears, but I want that one," he said.

"That's an excellent choice. That's a beautiful ring. My husband designed it. It's similar to the one he gave me many moons ago."

"Oh, that's great," Isaac said.

"Did you want to glance at the price?" she asked, showing him the tag.

He nodded. It wasn't a lot at all, but he didn't care. He would have spent much more. He nodded, letting her know the price was fine.

"I honestly don’t know what a promise ring is, but I like that one, and the name of it sounds great. It sounds like what I'm looking for."

"Well, this ring is a good choice. What's the lady's name, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Ari," he said. "Her name is Ariel, but she goes by Ari. I'd like to get her a chain, too, please. You mentioned a necklace. I think she'd like one of those. Nothing too dangly or delicate. A nice, medium, gold chain."

"All right, well, she seems like one lucky lady. She has earned the affection of a man with good taste if you ask me. If she's about an average size woman, we'll size the ring at a seven. It's a good guess, and if she needs it resized, all she has to do is bring it in."

"Yes, great. Thank you. And also. I was just going to hand it to her. Is that okay? You don't propose with this kind of thing, do you?"

"No, honey, you don't need to do that. You can just hand it to her. You can tell her it's a promise ring if she doesn't know already."

"That's the chain," Isaac said, pointing at a necklace on the velvet board the minute they walked over to the necklaces.

"That's a beautiful curb chain," the lady said. "What is your name, sir?"

"Isaac Alexander."

"You have excellent taste, Mister Alexander. These will be gorgeous pieces for your lady. Will you be giving them to her at the same time, or are these for separate occasions?"

"Why? Is there a rule about it? I was just going to give them both to her."

"Oh no, there's no rule. I was thinking of options with wrapping them."

"Oh, no, I think I'm just giving them to her today if that's okay."

The lady smiled. "Of course it is. Today seems like a great day. I'll show you the price for a sixteen-inch version of this chain, which is probably what you'd want."

She typed in the price on a calculator and flashed it at Isaac.

He nodded at her. It wasn't a cheap shopping trip, but it also wasn't as much as he was prepared to spend when he walked in.
