He took a deep breath, then huffed a rough, humourless laugh.

“You might just be the death of me, Harlow Vanguard.”

“Yeah, I might if you don’t hurry up and fuck me.”

His groan now was all appreciation and all pleasure. “Fuck, that mouth on you.”

“Does the big, bad wolf like that?” I teased.

A cheeky darkness came over him. “I like it very much.”

He wasted no time in propping me on his desk, sliding skirts up as he dipped his lips to my neck. I held onto him tightly as he pushed my panties out of the way, pulled himself out of his trousers and slid into me.

There was nothing slow and steady about it. No battle of wills playing out. Rather, it was like we both needed something and the other was there, offering it freely. We said nothing – exchanged no insults or challenges – but the occasional exhalation of the other’s name on our lips as they skimmed necks and cheeks and jaws.

My pleasure built quickly, only to find an icy bucket of water dumped on it as a knock came at Valen’s door.

“Valk?” Apollo’s voice followed it.

Valen groaned. As he slid out of me, he pressed a kiss to my jaw just below my ear and muttered angrily.

“Valk?” Apollo said again.

“Just…” Valen snapped. “Wait. Unless you wanna see me with it out.”

Apollo chuckled. “Your dad not leaving you any room to satisfy your urges?”

“I wouldn’t blame my dad,” Valen muttered to me and then finally registered the panic on my face.

He looked around, then nodded towards his wardrobe.

“I’ll get him out of the way,” Valen whispered.

“Look, I can come back if this is going to take a while?” Apollo said.

“Five seconds, fucker!” Valen snapped.

Just before I was out of arm reach, Valen grabbed my hand. I looked back at him and saw the regret on his face. I just didn’t know whether it was regret we were interrupted, regret that Apollo almost found out, or something else entirely.

He didn’t open the door until I was safely hidden in the dark wardrobe.

“What do you want?” Valen huffed.

“I wanted to check you were all right,” Apollo said.

“You fucking didn’t.”

Apollo’s laugh was anything but humoured. “All right. Maybe I wanted to check we were both all right.”

“Why?” Valen’s concern was obvious in his voice. “What’s happened?”

“It’s Harlow.”

“Harlow?”

“Now, you call her Harlow,” Apollo huffed a laugh.

“What’s wrong with her?”
