It was as if he was squeezing her heart back together.

After a minute, it began to beat a whole new rhythm.

One that matched his.

And she just knew, no matter what happened next, they’d be able to get through it. Because they’d get through it together.

He pulled back and looked her in the eye. His expression was fierce as his eyes scanned her features like he needed to remind himself who he was talking to. “I love you. Do you know that?”

She smiled and licked her lips because she was so not even on his level and he had no idea. All she could do was hold on and hope to keep up.

Because he really was a superstar, and she was caught in his radiance forever.

He crushed his mouth to hers and the relief poured into that kiss caught her by surprise. She slid her fingers into his hair. Her entire body rejoiced at being near him again and she could swear that individual cells inside her body were high-fiving each other.

He wrapped his arms around her back and held her close as his tongue slid into her mouth.

She moaned at the sensation, and he tightened his hold.

The apartment door that wasnothers, opened.

“Uh, do you mind?”

Sabine and Dave both broke away from their kiss to glare at the pale faced neighbor.

She was just about to ask him if he needed help shoving a banjo up his ass, but Dave stood and ushered her into her loft.

“Seriously?” she growled. “The freaking nerve of that guy.”

Dave bit his lip and then backed her into the corner of the doorway, and he was kissing her again.

Okay.

Yes.

She could forget about the banjo player if this was the reward.

The kiss went from urgent to tender. He slowed his pace, his hands moved over her back, her arms, her shoulders, her sides.

He lifted his head and gazed down at her adoringly.

She touched the rose near his eye, and he grabbed her hand and placed a kiss to her palm.

They didn’t need to talk through this.

Their hearts were rebooting.

She was so glad he’d come home.

CHAPTERTWENTY-SEVEN

LIFETIME

DAVE

Light streamed in through the tall windows and woke him.

He stretched, arms over his head, toes pointed as far as they would go.
