Sabine rolled her eyes but smiled. She finished buttoning her coat and slung her bag over her shoulder.

She wanted to say something to Dave. But she was at a total loss and she had to go.

She didn’t have time to lollygag like a moony teenager—which she wasnot.

“I’ll see you,” she said, giving a low wave.

“Tomorrow.”

She glanced over her shoulder and he met her eyes.

“You’ll see me tomorrow,” he repeated, a soft smile on his lips.

She didn’t know what to say so she didn’t say anything. She just rolled her lips inward and nodded once.

And then she drove home with the dopiest grin on her face.

Oh, she needed a reality check.

Bad.

Superstars don’t hang out with teachers.

She took a breath as she parked in her spot and caught a glimpse of herself in the rearview mirror.

Yeah, as fun an idea as it was, there was no way Sunshine Capone was going to spend the biggest party night of the year hanging out with her.

But if he did…

She had the perfect costume all ready to go.

CHAPTERSIX

SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS

SABINE

“Are you sure about this?” Kara hovered in the doorway dressed as a Thundercat.

Sabine straightened the shoulder pads under her cape and turned to look in the full-length mirror at her backside.

“Am I sure?” Sabine asked slowly. “No. But it’s happening anyway.”

“And you’re sure it’s not a date?” Kara asked for the one hundredth time.

Sabine huffed and went to her bed, picked up her phone, and handed it to Kara. “Read through those texts and you tell me.”

Kara scrolled through the text conversation that Sabine had been having with Dave since last night. Kara chewed on her thumb nail, silent.

Sabine knew what she was reading because she’d been over it no less than five times herself. Which just made her feel like such an idiot.

The texts had been friendly, short, and innocent. He didn’t flirt or ask for anything inappropriate. He hadn’t even sent an emoji. Not one!

It was one of the most boring text conversations Sabine had ever had with a guy.

Which just made her like him so much more.

Wait. What?
