During our evening together, I often caught Landry and the kids checking to see where I was. Blair must have thanked me a dozen times for the bike. Brooklyn shared her apple with me. I swear Beckett doesn’t have a single thought in his little head that he doesn’t feel the need to tell me. That’s the kind of closeness I’ve only had with my club family, Woodrow, and Rosemary.

“I’m going to have a barbecue at my house soon,” I announce at the Pigsty, and everyone looks at me like I’m crazy. “I plan to invite the club over. You will attend and meet Landry. I want her to know my people.”

Sensing they think I’ve gone soft, I add, “No getting drunk or buzzed on anything. No talk of fucking. Don’t bring any slutty bitches.”

“Can I bring my kids?” Tomcat asks, lingering nearby, wary of roughhousing since a bullet tore open his chest.

I look at him and then flash a frown at Ruin. Goose snorts, snickering at my reaction. Walla Walla throws his head back and laughs loudly. Only Tomcat doesn’t understand how his kids are brats raised by women better at sucking dick than playing mommy.

“No,” I finally reply.

“It’ll be fine,” Ruin says and pats my back. “Your kids might be a good influence on his.”

“Hey,” Tomcat mutters.

“Shut up,” Ruin grumbles. “You know what they’re like.”

Ignoring the cousins’ glaring, I say, “I don’t want your kids bullying mine.”

Tomcat opens his mouth to say something he can’t take back. I know he figures I won’t pound on him since he’s healing up. Ruin knows otherwise which is why he signals his cousin to shut the fuck up.

“This is how shit is now,” Ruin mutters, making everyone frown including the younger guys eavesdropping nearby. “We’re more than single guys and a very horny chick.”

While Armor chuckles at his sister’s eye roll, Ruin continues, “Some of us have women and kids now. Joie can handle you fuckers, but Nomad’s kids are new to our world. We need to be tender with them.”

“Like we need to treat your woman, right?” Tomcat mutters.

Ruin glares at his cousin with only half the rage I see in Armor’s eyes. I feel trouble brewing between people. Considering I’m not looking for gossip today, I fear asking questions.

As everyone splits up, I end up trailing Ruin outside to the expansive back deck with a hot tub that’s seen more than its share of jizz.

“Be square with me,” Ruin says, and I wait for a lecture. “Is Landry cool? Like as a chick to hang out with. Not for you. It’s just that Selene doesn’t have many girlfriends. I want to help her find some, but I can’t have her getting bullied.”

“You met Landry.”

“Yeah, but that was day one. She had to be freaked out by everything. I don’t know what she’s like normally.”

“Nicer than your woman,” I growl.

Ruin smirks. “No one’s sweeter than my Selene.”

Though I consider talking shit, I realize he’ll say something about Landry. I’m not looking to get into a fistfight with the one person I’ve lost to in my life.

“Landry has no friends. She gets along with Rosemary. I’m sure she’d do fine with your woman,” I mutter before getting an idea. “In fact, get your sister to throw Landry a baby shower.”

“You ask Wynonna yourself.”

“She’ll hassle me.”

“My niece and nephew are around your little ones’ ages. Could be some potential playdates there.”

“Isn’t Wynonna’s boy a weirdo?”

Ruin narrows his blue eyes and snarls enough to show off his upper teeth. “No, asshole.”

“He does all that preacher talk. I don’t want a judgmental little shit around my kids.”

“Ralph Junior’s well behaved. How does Wynonna know your kids won’t teach hers bad habits?”
