“Mine are fucking saints. They never fight. Always play nice,” I lie since Beckett and Brooklyn are forever jealous of each other and Beau has zero interest in engaging with the other kids.

“Uh-huh. Your oldest one isn’t too much younger than Joie.”

“Your kid is high maintenance,” I say, refusing to smile despite knowing I’m about to set off my president.

Ruin opens his mouth to read me the riot act. Maybe he senses I’m fucking with him because he just rolls his eyes.

“Joie isn’t a bully.”

“No, I suppose not, but Blair doesn’t play any sports. What are they going to talk about?”

“Movies, video games, lots of shit. Joie isn’t just a jock.”

Shrugging, I admit, “I don’t know what kids like. Their movies are just noise to me.”

Ruin loses his snarly expression and chuckles. “I can’t tell you how relieved I was when Joie stopped watching Pixar and asked to see shit I could enjoy.”

Glancing at Armor talking to Dice, I feel restless away from my house. “Do you miss your woman when you’re apart? Or do you know she’ll be around later and don’t stress it?”

“I miss Selene even when she’s in the next room. But I can do shit without her. We need our time apart. She and Yazmin are used to being together a lot. I can’t interfere with all their time. Especially after what happened with Tomcat, Yazmin needs Selene around.”

“Did he get rough?”

Ruin rubs the back of his neck and mutters, “It’s complicated.”

“No, probably not. It’s about his dick, right?”

“Yeah, but the complicated part is on her end.”

“How is Armor involved?”

Ruin narrows his eyes. “What do you know?”

“He’s been hostile toward Tomcat since I got here. You know how loud his subtle anger can be.”

Nodding, Ruin glances over his shoulder. “He wanted Yazmin. Tomcat claims he wasn’t aware, but we both know it wouldn’t have made a difference.”

“Is Yazmin hung up on Tomcat like your old assistants?”

“No. She’s just messed up in the head. I’m not sure if she wants anyone.”

“Does Armor still want her?”

“I don’t know. A lot of shit went down after that happened with the shooting. Things have settled down, but nothing’s been resolved.”

“When you said Yazmin’s messed up in the head, do you mean dangerous?”

“I’ll be square with you,” he says, lowering his voice. “Yazmin is weird. I mean, I guess Selene is too in her way, but I took a while to warm up to her sister. But Yazmin seems harmless. She’s good with animals. She seemed okay around my niece and nephew. So, not dangerous. Why?”

“I don’t want bitches around Landry.”

“They’re not bitches.”

“Your sister is,” I say, and Ruin gets his back up again. “But she’s a good mom like Landry. I bet they’ll have some stuff in common. Landry needs mom friends, but maybe just girlfriends like Selene and Yazmin would be good, too. Rosemary isn’t great around other women. Neither is Landry. They need someone pushy. That’s why your sister is a good idea.”

Ruin doesn’t like me talking shit about his little sister. However, he knows she’s a raging bitch. Wynonna is one of the few women I’ve ever found funny. She’s a ballbuster and unimpressed with my attempts to bully her. She’s like a softer Goose.

“I get how Landry needs more than just me,” I tell Ruin who’s still pissed about me shit-talking his sister. “She needs friends, so she can complain about the kids and me. That’s what women like, but I don’t trust anyone who isn’t tied to the club.”
