Disinterested in the food, Landry admires me in that horny way she gets. I can feel her touching my skin with her gaze. I’m left with a boner at a really inconvenient time.

I focus on the ultrasound image and try not to think of Landry naked. “That’s our baby girl.”

“She’s going to be crazy about you,” Landry says in a soft tone I feel wrap around my heart.

Studying her gaze, I realize she’s more than just horny. Landry Copper feels important. I’ve made her well-being a priority. She isn’t an object to be used, but the woman I love.

Once I understand the meaning behind her gaze, I get the urge to hide with her for the rest of the day. We could fool around in bed before she takes a nap. However, I can’t dodge work again.

After we arrive home and the three younger kids attack Landry as if they’re starved for mama-attention, I insist, “Promise you’ll nap while I’m gone.”

“Promise you’ll look both ways,” she replies, knowing I plan to spend my afternoon riding around McMurdo Valley.

Once Landry and I exchange our promises, I meet up with Eagle near our club’s townie bar—Valley Gin Mill. We race up north, past the road leading to Ruin’s house, and toward Antler Overpass. I remember when we hunted down one of the Jordans out here after the asshole nearly ended Hobo the day before. I can still hear the motherfucker screaming.

After looping back toward the heart of McMurdo Valley, Eagle slows down when he spots Armor speeding through a red light. We don’t need to know where our club brother is headed to understand he isn’t on a social call.

We race our Fat Boys after him toward an unknown location. Armor flies through a few more red lights, barely dodging a truck in his rush. I’m slightly more careful since I’d like to survive long enough to see Brigitte born. Just the idea of dying leaves me picturing Landry alone in the world again. I best get my affairs in order.

As we near the Valley Gorge Business Center, I’m thinking about wills and ensuring Landry has access to all my stashed cash. Ruin knows about that shit. I’ll ask him after whatever the fuck is happening at his office today.

Ruin’s truck pulls into the parking lot, just as Armor runs into the building. Eagle and I jump off our hogs and run past our president who yells for us to protect Yazmin. A panicked Selene nearly falls out of the truck in her hurry to reach her sister.

We haul ass up the stairs and down the hall to Ruin’s corner office. Inside, we find Armor with a large redneck pinned to the wall while an older asshole yanks at my pissed club brother. Nearby, Yazmin stands passively in the corner, holding a stuffed animal.

I get between Armor and the older asshole who I realize is Jakob Copper. He’s a big guy compared to his son. Neal was barely taller than Landry. This red-faced fucker currently huffing and puffing is around Ruin’s size. Having heard stories from Blair about her jackass grandpa, I shove him for bullying Landry.

Eagle keeps watch in the hallway to avoid witnesses, in case we end these assholes.

Having taken the elevator, my president enters with Selene right behind him. While he steps between Jakob and me, his woman rushes to her sister.

“What the fuck is this?” Ruin hollers.

Jakob demands, “Are you Hoyt Macready?”

“Yeah, who the fuck are you?”

“You told my daughters to contact you about my missing son and grandkids.”

“Why were you hassling my assistant?”

Jakob yanks up his drooping pants and flashes a glance at Yazmin. “We came to meet you. She said we could wait downstairs, but we told her to let us in. She did. We told her to call you. She did. We asked where Neal was. That’s when she started acting like she’s got shit for brains. Suddenly, this asshole showed up and roughed up my son-in-law. I oughta call the police.”

We all look at Yazmin, who I realize is holding a small dog rather than a stuffed animal. Her nearly green eyes stare blankly back at us.

Ruin turns his pissed gaze to Jakob Copper. “I told your daughters to make a fucking appointment. That way, we could get the sheriff’s office out here to hash things out. I didn’t say you should show up and harass my assistant.”

“We didn’t harass shit. Is she slow or something?”

Still holding the son-in-law against the wall, Armor points at the elder Copper and barks, “Shut the fuck up!”

Jakob wipes sweat from his forehead and smirks at Ruin. “You need to get a leash for your boyfriend here.”

Ruin’s face goes through several expressions before landing on his “Mayor Hoyt” one. “Selene, call someone from the sheriff’s office to come here and hash things out.”

“We already talked to those assholes,” mutters the younger redneck.

To my absolute shock, Landry explained that her sister-in-law—aka Hulk Hogan from moving day—had an actual husband. This dumb-shit is him. Unable to remember his name, I decide to mentally refer to him as Missus Hogan.
