I can't say I'm exactly surprised by their reactions. They've been confused with my behaviour since I came out of shock and told them what happened in the bar. Like I predicted, they were none too pleased that I ran after Kevin and didn't tell them what I was doing.

"I'm going to have to agree with Adam on this," Rhys murmurs, walking up to me and placing his index finger under my chin while Wyatt sleeps peacefully in his other arm. "Why on earth do you want to mourn this man?"

Rhys has always been the more understanding one so I stop, knowing if I explain it to him, he'll get it. It's not about what he did, but about what was done to him so many times over.

"Because I'm not mourning the man he was. I know the world is better off without him." I pause, sucking in a deep breath and closing my eyes. "I'm mourning the person he should have been. You didn't see him as he was dying, his eyes so sad and childlike. He was terrified, not of death, but of facing his father again in the afterlife. I know that fear, I know why he was driven to do what he did."

Stepping away from Rhys, I wipe the tears from my eyes and smooth down my black blouse. Looking up at the two men in front of me, I smile sadly. "Kevin was an awful person, there's no denying that. That doesn't mean he should be left to rest on his own. The little boy who never got a chance to grow up and be a better person is who I am going to mourn. If someone had just been there for him in the first place, things may have been different. As it is, he spent most of his life scared and alone, I won't let him go out that way as well."

Rhys nods his head, brushing tears away from his own eyes as he does. "Will you ever stop making me fall more in love with you?"
