“I wasthis close,” I whisper. “Dean Tahg just needed to give me two more seconds and then…”

“Let’s figure this out,” Birdie says.

She jumps up off the couch and turns her notebook around.

“What is that?” Maz asks.

“These are all the names I could come up with that start withRyl,” Birdie says.

“Wait,” I say. “You two are mafia.”

“Duh,” Birdie says.

“You have to know all the names,” I say. “You have to know a name that starts withRyl. Right?”

Maz shrugs her shoulders.

So does Birdie.

Then Birdie points to the notebook. “How aboutRylion.”

“Lion,” Maz says. “Like the animal…”

“Or,” Birdie says. “Ryloper.”

“What is that?” I ask.

“Might be your last name,” Birdie says.

“Give me that notebook,” Maz says.

She grabs it from Birdie and shakes her head.

“What?” I ask.

“It’s a full page of random names,” Maz says. “Then again I don’t even know if these are names.Rylcock.”

She glances at Birdie.

“Sorry,” Birdie says. “I’m sort of in need of attention these days.”

“Rylbigdick,” Maz says.

She throws the notebook down.

“Okay, I got carried away,” Birdie says.

“I appreciate the help,” I say. “You two should find out for me. Ask around your families. Or ask others. That way it’s not me asking.”

“Because you’re really afraid of Archer,” Birdie says.

“No,” Maz says. “She likes this game. The thrill of the possibility of being murdered. Makes her wet.”

“Ew, don’t say that about me,” I say.

Birdie snaps her fingers. “Hey. I just realized. We’re closing in on the Halloween party.”

“Yeah,” Maz says. “Did you not check the calendar? Or the weather?”
