“I’m just saying,” Birdie says.

“Halloween party?” I ask. “Are you serious?”

“It’s a big deal around here,” Maz says.

“Some people dress up,” Birdie says. “Some don’t.”

“Guys like to have the excuse to get as naked as possible,” Maz says.

“Girls like to dress as slutty as possible,” Birdie says.

“Typical then,” I say.

“Exactly,” Maz says. “It’s a good time though.”

“That’s where I’m going to have some fun,” Birdie says.

“You’re thinking about sex right now?” Maz asks. “Our friend needs our help.”

“I did help her,” Birdie says. “I made a list of names.”

I glance down at the notebook. “Does that sayRylefthand?”

“I ran out of ideas,” Birdie says. “I have a short attention span. Sorry.”

“It doesn’t matter anymore then,” I say. “Forget about it. I want to hear more about this Halloween party. A night to have fun? I’m in.”

“Yeah, you’ll have fun,” Maz says. “With your two guys fighting over you all night.”

“Or maybe I’ll keep them each in a room apart,” I say. “Have my way when I want it."

“Yes!” Birdie cries out.

“You calm down,” Maz says to Birdie.

I start to laugh.

Someone knocks at the dorm room door.

“It’s probably for you,” Maz says. “Go open it.”

I lick my lips.

I fear seeing another envelope from Archer.

Another game.

Another test.

Anotherwhatever this is.

I open the door and see Cullen Doyle.

I shiver, then I smile.

“Got any plans, love?” Cullen asks.

“She has none!” Birdie calls out.
