“More like dead bodies,” Birdie says.

“What?” I ask.

“I’m kidding,” she says.

“Or is she?” Maz asks.

“That’s disgusting,” I say.

“You never know,” Maz says. “This whole place has a wild history. So I would avoid the water. It’s more to just look at. You know?”

“Right,” I say.

“Or wait until some of the idiotSavagesget too drunk and run in there anyway,” Birdie says. “Sometimes they go in naked.”

“Sometimes that’s a nice view,” Maz says.

They both look at each other and giggle.

“What’s so funny?” I ask.

“Quinn Doyle,” Birdie says.

“Who?”

“Cullen’s brother,” Maz says.

“Oh, right,” I say. “I met him at that party.”

“Yeah,” Maz says. “Well, the last time there was a lake party, he stood up, took his shirt off and dropped his jeans. Right in front of the fire. In front of everyone. On a dare to go into the lake.”

“Oh,” I say.

“Let’s just say there was a monster in the lake that night,” Birdie says. Then after a one second pause she adds, “His dick is big.”

“I picked up on that,” I say.

“Which means Cullen is probably…,” Maz wiggles her eyebrows.

“Wow,” I say.

“You’ll find out soon enough, right?” Birdie asks. “You have to find out.”

“The only thing I want to find out is what is inside that envelope,” I say.

“Which is why I should open it,” Birdie says. “Think about it. I open it. I read it. I can then casually tell you what’s up with your life and family.”

“How is that any different from her opening it?” Maz asks.

“She didn’t open it,” Birdie says.

“Are we going to plead that case to Archer when he’s getting ready to cut her throat ear to ear?” Maz asks. She looks at me. “Sorry for saying that.”

“No worries,” I say.

“So let me open it,” Birdie says.

“No,” I say. “I need to think this out.”
