“Then what is this?”

“A message,” Seth says.

“It’s been received. Now tell me what you know.”

“About?”

“About me,” I growl. “Why did you really kidnap me, Seth?”

“I missed you,” he says.

“Seth. Please.”

“Are you really going to beg right now, Jaci?”

I take a deep breath and look up at him. “I can’t believe I loved you.”

“You still love me.”

“I can’t love you. I don’t know you. You’re never honest with me.”

“Guilt won’t work on me, Jaci. I’ve kept it real. Even when we fucked. Did we get naked, flirt, touch, take our time? No. What did we do? We fucked.” He leans down closer to me. “And it’s exactly what you wanted.”

I swallow hard. “Okay. Fine. You caught me there. But what’s this now? Guns? Faye? Really?”

“It’s business,” he says.

“Faye. Of all people.”

“I can’t control what happens around here. You need to forget about her. She’s already dead.”

“She raised me. How can I just walk away?”

“There’s better things waiting.”

“You know Archer plans on killing me, right?” I ask. “As soon as I find out who my family is.”

“Are you tempting me to kill him right now?”

“If you’re tough enough,” I say. “Do it. Kill Archer. Protect me.”

Seth laughs. “Damn, you’re good, Jaci. But I’m better.”

He pushes me toward the table.

He backs up and leans against a wall.

The gun still points at me.

“Seth, talk to me,” I say. “Tell me the truth.”

“What truth do you want?”

“You kidnapped me,” I say. “You took me. You can justify it however you want. I could never figure out why. You said it was to get the attention of Cullen and Archer. I believed you. And it worked, didn’t it? You had their attention. I wouldn’t let them hurt you either. You loved it. That’s not why you did it though.”

“Keep going, Jaci. I like this story.”

“This isn’t funny to me. What is happening?”
