Like actually snowing.

I’ve seen snow a million times.

Yet seeing it for the first time each season makes me feel giddy.

I feel like a kid again.

Watching it snow, waiting to hear if school’s going to be closed. Making plans to go sledding somewhere. Or just sitting around all day, drinking cheap hot chocolate and sleeping under a million blankets.

I hurry out of Seth’s car.

I stick my hands out and look up at the sky.

I feel the little snowflakes touch my face.

A quick icy sting and then nothing.

“You always act like this with snow,” Seth says.

“Just look at it,” I say. “Snowing in the fall. With the leaves. It’s beautiful out here.”

“Yeah, it is beautiful,” Seth says.

I realize he’s staring at me when he says that.

I lower my hands and I stare back at him.

The gentle snowfall dances around and between us.

Sometimes I look at Seth and see the piece of shit who wants nothing but to cause everyone pain.

Then sometimes I look at him and I see the guy I fell in love with.

There’s a side to Seth not many know about.

“You should just go,” I whisper. “Before things get worse.”

“Are you going to sleep with me in my car tonight?”

“No, Seth.”

“Then you should go. Before it gets colder and snowier. Or else I’m going to have to walk you back there. And that’s going to be a problem.”

“Okay,” I say. “Goodbye, Seth.”

“Wait,” he says.

He reaches into his car, then steps toward me.

He has a winter cap in his hands.

He gently places it on my head, smiling at me as he does so.

Between that and the fucking snow and the fucking leaves and the fucking feelings I have…

I catch myself moving up on my toes, wanting to kiss Seth.

Then he pulls the hat down my entire face.
