I sat up a little straighter, surprised by how good I felt, as if I could run a thousand miles without breaking a sweat.

What better time to press my luck?

“There is something I’ve been meaning to ask you,” I said. “I’ve never really seen you shift. I’ve seen the scales that cover your skin, and the swords you pull from your back, but I've never seen your dragon form."

Rumir smirked. “I’ll have to strip naked to shift. Are you sure you want me to do that?”

Shaking my head, I rolled my eyes and swung my legs off the bed to sit beside him. "Come on, I'm being serious."

“So am I.” He leaned over and kissed me beside my ear. “But all you have to do is ask. You’re my mate. I'm not hiding my dragon form from you. I just don't shift often. But if you want me to…”

I nodded. “Yes, please.”

He stood up and held his hand out to me. “Let’s go then,” he said, leading me outside.

When we'd first arrived here, I hadn't been in the right state of mind to admire his home, but now, I could see that it was beautifully furnished and relatively simple. The furniture reminded me of contemporary styles on Earth, with some odd yet creative shapes. An example of that was the sofa in my room, whose form reminded me of a peanut, but the entire thing was made of a soft material.

It was aesthetically pleasing, but also more comfortable than I’d expected.

I held my head back to stare up at the night sky, and the sight took my breath away. I'd fallen in love with the sky in this realm with its millions of stars that were visible every night.

But now, with my enhanced eyesight, I could see the galaxy.

The blend of colors and clusters of stars was absolutely amazing. I laughed, finding the beauty in my new abilities, but when I turned back to Rumir, a different sight rendered me speechless.

He was in the process of removing his shirt.

The muscles in his stomach flexed, and my eyes drifted upward, from his perfectly carved v-line to his rock-hard abs, up to his impressive pecs. All seven feet of him were pure muscle and power, and if my wolf could have purred with delight, she would have.

His shirt off, Rumir smirked knowingly, his mouth curved upward at the side.

I looked away, trying to hide my blush.

"Why turn away now?" He unbuckled his pants, and my heart stopped. "I'm not done."

“Can you behave?”

"Why should I?" He walked toward me, then took my hand and kissed my palm, then placed it on his chest.

He was so hot… literally.

He felt like a furnace. He kept his hand over mine, holding it in place, as scales began to appear over his body. I was stunned by the blend of green and gold, just as I had been the night we'd first met. He took off his pants as the transformation started to take over.

As the scales grew to cover his chest and arms, I followed them, feeling their hardness beneath my touch.

His eyes were like glowing gems, and I bit down on my lip in awe.

His arms grew enormous, and throbbing veins appeared on his neck when his wings sprouted from his back. I'd seen werewolves shift many times, but I'd never witnessed anything like this.

His neck began to elongate while his facial features changed. His teeth became pointier, and horns pushed through his forehead. His ears vanished, sinking into his head, and his hair fell to the ground…and before long, I couldn’t recognize him.

Rumir fell to a knee, and his fingers grew longer—the middle ones more than the rest—before his hands transformed into massive clawed feet. A tail I hadn’t noticed before slapped the ground behind him.

I stepped back, but not out of fear. He was so large, I could easily sit in his mouth with room for five others.

Standing before me on four legs with a hardened body of unbreakable scales was… a dragon.

A rumbling sound like a deep growl visibly shook his throat, and he lowered his head to my height.
