I laughed and covered my mouth with excitement. “You look so badass!”

He bared his teeth, and I could easily imagine it to be his way of smirking in agreement. I stepped to the side, admiring him while he stretched out wings that were ten times longer than the ones I’d seen before.

A single flap of those wings could probably create a hurricane.

“Beautiful,” I muttered under my breath.

"I know," a voice said in my head, and my face dropped, as did my shoulders. My entire body went numb, and Rumir’s large eyes narrowed. “Did you just hear me?”

“Yes,” I replied out loud. “Did you just speak to me telepathically? I thought dragons could only do that with each other.”

He turned his body to face me, and his tail dug into the earth. "I thought so too, but maybe you can hear my thoughts because we are mated. Natalie, this is amazing!”

"Can you hear me?" Instead of speaking the question, I voiced it in my head, and Rumir flapped his wings.

"Yes!" he yelled in my head. A loud growl emitted from him, and I stumbled back from the force of the wind created by his wings. "Sorry, but I can't believe we can communicate like this."

He took a step forward, one massive claw piercing the ground before me. Then he lowered his head to me.

"I love you, Natalie," he said in my mind, and I reached out and touched the side of his mouth.

"I love you," I said out loud, my breath shaky.

He closed his eyes, obviously content. I loved him so much, with everything that was in me. And I felt the same way about Lucian. There was no questioning it. These two men were my very life and soul.

“Come.” He turned and lowered his wing to the ground. “I’ll take you flying.”

"Are you sure?" I asked, already itching to climb onto him.

"Yes, just for a few minutes. Hold onto one of the horns on my back. Don’t worry. I'll take it slow. But I want to share this with you, the freedom of flying."

I ran forward excitedly, and once I got on his wing, he raised me into the air, and I leaped onto his back. I couldn't believe I was about to take a ride on a dragon—a dragon who was my mate!

How crazy was that?

Once I was settled and holding onto a horn with all my strength, I let out my breath. I needed this. I needed this normalcy, although nothing about this situation was normal. But I needed a moment to just be me, Natalie, having fun with my mate.

“Thank you, Rumir," I said telepathically, and he bent his head to look at me over his shoulder. "For loving me," I added, and he made a huffing sound that caused his nostrils to flare.

"You have nothing to thank me for. But I have you to thank for everything." He leaned back, and I flattened my chest to his back when he kicked off the ground. "I've found a strength I never knew I had since I first met you. You're changing me, Natalie. And no matter what the future holds, I'll never leave your side.”
