The serpent hissed, and although I'd already released our connection, she slid closer to me.

“Nathos will feed you from now on. You won't be alone. Listen to him, okay?”

Her tongue darted out, and the others slipped through the door.

"Good girl," I said, and she slithered past me to a stiff Nathos.

“Thank you for your help,” I told him.

He nodded, then I stepped through as well.

I hadn’t used my powers from Tedara just now, although I knew they had helped in some way. But as much as I was changing, I was still Natalie the Enchanted.

Now I just needed to get to Ruby and Axel. And then I’d have to figure out how the hell I was going to find the psycho who created this mess, without help from the Imperium.

The second we stepped out into the White Tower, I knew the situation was dire.

There had been close to a hundred infected souls in Urgron City. But here? I could feel thousands. If I’d even considered trying to consume the chaos of the infected the way I’d done before, that was no longer an option.

There were just too many.

As we made our way to the higher floors, the once pure air I’d grown used to breathing in this city was now tainted with the scents of blood and death.

We hurried through the White Tower. It was usually a busy hub but now, there were only a few gods there covered in dust and blood aiding the wounded.

We made our way outside, and although we’d been told the city was overrun, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

My beautiful home of white and gold was burning.

Rehema’s hand flew to her mouth, and Rumir placed a hand on her shoulder.

The sky was thick with smoke as some buildings burned and others toppled. The chorus of screams I could hear like a symphony of death struck a chord inside me—and not a good one.

I felt a pang of excitement, the sound of war like music to my ears, and my divinity stirred excitedly.

No! I wouldn't give in to such feelings. I was here to get Ruby and Axel, who were still asleep, to safety. And then, as I’d done in Urgron City, I'd do what I could to help everyone.

This scene was way too familiar. It reminded me of the war on Earth, and I hated it. I hated that the sound of madness was such a beautiful tone.

When I'd arrived at the afterlife, I'd been a little bored. My days as a pack Enchanted were behind me, and while I'd spoken of missing the excitement and adrenaline of a fight, I hadn't wanted this.

I hadn’t wanted to be reminded what burning flesh smelled like.

I pressed my wrist to my temple as the emotions of thousands scratched at my mind. I felt like screaming along with them, but I bit down on my lip. I opened myself up to all the pain, for it was a reminder that there was no enjoyment in death.

Millions of souls were being killed and wiped from existence.

“I’m going to find my father,” Rehema said hastily. “I’ll join you guys at the S.R.F. when I do.”

I nodded. “Go,” I said. “But be careful.”

She typed at her bracelet and teleported. I looked around, and like Zeus had said, I saw Kruards and Dextura fighting the infected. Other supernatural creatures were giving everything they had to protect their home as well.

A florkin came charging towards the White Tower, and Rumir took to the sky. He finished his shift mid-air, his mighty roar booming through the city.
