The Cyclops advanced on us, when suddenly, a hail storm of arrows fell on the one-eyed bastard. He swung and spun, howling in pain, and a glowing green spear shot through the Cyclops's head, right through his eye.

He tipped back, falling like a tree, and I spotted Rehema, still in her throwing position.

I'd never been so happy to see someone in my life. She was beautiful, fierce, a warrior. She cursed under her breath at the Cyclops and came running my way, her hair like clouds during a clear day.

“Brian!” she shouted, falling to her knees.

A bubble of green energy appeared around me, and my wounds started healing immediately.

"I'll cover you!" Ruby said when she and Axel joined us.

“What are you doing here?” I asked Rehema, reaching out to touch the blood on her stomach. “Are you hurt?”

“I’m fine. A Cripecs tried to eat me. But I had to find you. I didn’t appreciate you coming to the Mortal Realm without me." She shook her head. "I just got here and had to save your ass."

She held her hand out, releasing a wave of energy that sent several infected flying. Roots tunneled up from underground, crushing anything that got close to us.

I'd never seen her like this, so in control, so sure of herself and her powers. Her powers felt different, and the war vanished, leaving only her and her warmth.

“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen." The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them.

She paused, her cheeks staining pink in seconds, and before I knew what was happening, she kissed me. My body healed, and the hole inside me that had been empty, waiting to be filled by her, became whole.

I wrapped my arms around her, forgetting where we were for a second. But that second was long enough.

She pulled away. "We'll talk after," she said.

I sat up. I’d been so worried about what I’d say to her, how I’d say it and what would happen afterwards. But this outcome was a thousand times better.

"Yes." I touched her cheek, and saw her feelings for me as she stared into my eyes. How hadn't I noticed before? "We have a lot to talk about. So let's end this war so we can get to it, yeah?"

She nodded. "Yes." She stood and so did I. "I'm the only demigoddess here, and I was told there's a demon prince about? Maybe he and I can close that portal."

I searched for Cyrus until I spotted his wings. “There,” I said, pointing. “Let’s show these demons what God Realm natives are made of.”

Rehema smirked, her eyes glistening green, and I felt my heart swell. There was nobody else I’d rather face the end of the world with.
