Kai said nothing as he let Joaquin's words sink in. Kao and I had told Kai numerous times that what happened wasn't his fault, but maybe hearing it from the man in question would finally let it sink. That another set of weights he put on himself could finally be lifted.

"Okay." Kao's voice boomed over the silence. He patted Kai's back to break him out of his flustered stated. "Now that we've gotten the heavy shit out the way, how about we turn in for the night and show our lady how much we worship our queen."

"Sounds like a plan," Joaquin agreed, then turned around and walked down the dirt road, passing through the rose bushes.

In hindsight, we should've drove one of the trucks to Abuelita’s place. Not that her house was far from the lodge, but it would've killed our time by half an hour. Not that my mates seemed to mind. While they walked and Joaquin still carried me like a baby fawn, the twins filled him in on our camping adventure, reciting everything we learned that Joaquin missed. Which included the addition of Roxanne, the Moon Dial, and of course, Sabina.

That last one stopped him in his tracks. "Sabina is a demigod?"

"Yep, and her mother is Mother Moon herself," I said. "That's how she knew about Rowan and where to find him."

Joaquin's head shook as he tried registering that bombshell of a news. "Wait... Huh?"

Kao snorted. "Dude, trust me. No matter how many times we repeat it, it won't sound any less crazy."

"How could I have not known this about her? Sabina and I have known each other since we were kids. I mean, she always seemed curious to know about her mother, but for her to be Mother Moon's daughter..."

"Babe, not even Sabina knew until after the full moon run," I said. "She was just as shocked as the rest of us when she found out. Honestly, I don't think she even had time to process it herself before she went off to find Rowan."

"I think we're finding new things about ourselves," Kao said, jogging to stand shoulder to shoulder to the right of Joaquin. "If there's one thing I can say I've been grateful about this whole thing, aside from being with you, Rosie, is that we're slowly breaking through the nightmares of our past, and overcoming what we were too afraid to face."

"I'll say," Joaquin muttered. "There is something I haven't told you guys yet."

I looked up at him, quirking a brow. "What is it?"

"It's about how I woke up. Rosie, you said you met one of the Sisters of Fate, right?"

I nodded, recalling the vision of our future that had haunted me ever since I first experienced it. One that now haunted Kai as well, since he feared he'd be the cause of it. "Atropos. She showed me a vision of the future."

"Well, when I was unconscious, I met one of them too."

"You what?" I gasped in shock.

The twins rushed around to stop in front of Joaquin. "What happened? Who did you see?" Kai asked.

Joaquin looked up into the starry night. "Clotho, the weaver of threads. The one who sees the past."

I gestured for Joaquin to set me back on my feet. Reluctantly, he did. I knew this topic was one we didn't want to have right now, but this was important information we needed. "What did she tell you?"

"She rightfully stated how we all are being held back by the ghosts of our past. Not just me, but all of us excluding Rosie."

Excluding me, so that meant my mates were the ones she was referring to.

Joaquin continued. "She said if we don't look beyond our past, we will never make it to the future we're after. Especially... especially in Kai's predicament."

Kai's eyes widened at the mention of his name directly. "C-Clotho talked to you about me?"

"Not exactly. She said one of Rosie's mates is slowly losing himself to the monster of his past, and if we don't do something to help, you'll either end up like Pierce, or worse."

"Wait." I held up a hand to stop him. "What does Pierce have to do with this?"

Joaquin head fell to the ground looking more defeated than I'd seen from him. "I think it means that Pierce is too far gone to be saved."

"Saved?" Kao retorted with disgust as he crossed his arms. "Why would we want to save Pierce in the first place? The man is the real monster here. After everything he's done, he deserves to die."

"I know." Joaquin frowned. "I'm not disagreeing with you."

I stepped forward, cupping Joaquin's face with my hand and forcing him to look up at me. Reading his expression, my brow furrowed in confusion. "But you think we should somehow save him?"
