"Rowan, my mother isn't going to smite her, or whatever, for wanting more mates than the four she needs for her Wolf Moon's gift to be at full strength. She's all about choice and free will, remember? When she finds her four chosen mates, she'll eventually be strong enough to pass the Lycan form to her entire pack. Once that happens, there's no need to mate with someone to tether them to the Wolf Moon's gift. Which means, she's free to mate with whomever she chooses."

How was it that I was a part of the Queen of Wolves’ chosen mates before Rosie was even born, and I was just now hearing about this? I didn't think about Rosie getting to have more than the four she was destined to have. I never even thought about the possibility of Marissa having more than the five of us when we were all together. But five men was probably more than enough for her, since we all loved to drive her crazy. What about Rosie? Would she want more than just her four? Was there enough room for me? Should I even ask her about it?

Sabina patted my arm. "If you love her, and you want to be with her and this pack, let yourself have them. You've spent fifteen years being on your own. Let yourself find a place where you belong again. Let yourself have a pack again."

"Maybe you're right," I admitted. "I'll talk to her, but later. For now, I want her to focus on Byron. Maybe when the chaos is all behind us, I can see if there's room for me at the end."

"You know there will be," Sabina said.

It was possible, but for now, I'd wait for my chance. "You know, as much as you love being in everyone else's love life, I'm surprised you don't have one of your own. When are you going to find someone? Or more than one."

Sabina looked up at the setting sun, the orange painted sky slowly blending into a navy blue color as night approached. "I don't think love is in the cards for me. Not when my path is just getting started."

"You're going to have to find the other Moon Chosen." I remembered our conversation about that. Sabina was called to find and help the other Moon Chosen who have yet to come into their powers. It would be a long, tedious journey for her, traveling around the world to help others. Having to say goodbye to her home and her life here. But that didn't mean she had to do it alone.

"I believe the time will come where you'll find your own harem of men. Maybe not now, but I believe some time in your journey, it'll happen for you. And when it does, I'll be here to grill you the same way you've been grilling us."

Sabina chortled out a laugh. "I look forward to when that day comes, Rowan."

"Come on, you wimps. I've met humans who can put up a better fight than you guys." Del chastised the betas she was sparring with, all of them on the ground and down for the count, while she stood with her magic weapon in hand.

It was the beginning of December, meaning we were a month away before the end of the world, so to speak. We'd been using the time we had to prepare, but it was hard to tell if it would be enough. My biggest concern would be whether or not Mordred would be fighting. Even with our Lycan forms, Mordred immobilized Joaquin and I without trying, and the twins were no match for him either. He'd be our biggest obstacle to face. Roxanne already made it clear that if Mordred was stepping into the battlefield, she'd fight him herself, magic to magic. I'd considered Roxanne a friend, so I was concerned for her safety. Especially since she would be expelling all her magical energy to make sure all humans were evacuated from Kingsrose beforehand.

In help fighting this growing army of theirs, Rosie called up the alphas of all the packs that Mordred invaded and worked out a deal with them. They would send in some of their pack members to aid us in the fight, and hopefully they'd get the chance to bring their loved ones back home with them once we break the curse. This would also form a temporary treaty with the packs, one that could solidify further once the war ended. Javier was already prepared to call in some of his own pack mates down to Kingsrose to assist as well. Roxanne had a witch friend stopping by soon with supplies she needed to help amplify her magic needed to hex the minds of the humans. Mordred's army was growing, and soon enough so would ours. Hopefully it'd be enough.

In the meantime, while Rosie and her mates were inside the lodge working up plans for when their numerous guests would arrive, Del took it upon herself to pick up where Byron left off with training their betas. Needless to say, it consisted mostly of them getting their asses kicked by the human assassin herself. Rosie told me about her friend, Del. The now former wolf hunter who's killed dozens of wolf shifters over the years, but now was dedicating herself to make sure all wolf hunting branches were destroyed, while also being a human alpha to their wolf pack. I never thought I'd see the day where a human would be in charge of a pack of wolf shifters, but since she was also the Blue Moon's chosen one, maybe it was her destiny.

"All right, you maggots, get up!" Del commanded, and was met with groaning protests.

Caleb, her white-haired mate, spoke up. "Babe, lighten up on them. You've been pushing them for two hours straight."

Del scoffed. "You think our enemies will lighten up on them when it's their very lives on the line? No, I didn't think so."

"While I agree with you, it is important not to push them so hard. They're already doing the best they can," Raph said, being the rational voice of their group.

"No, she's right," one of the betas said with a strained voice as they all got back to their feet. "This is too important. We need to get as strong as we can."

"Yeah, we can handle it," another one said. One by one they all stood up, expressing their want to keep training so they could fight in top shape and rescue their brothers.

I decided to step in as I walked down the porch steps. "A strong body is not the only requirement to being in fighting shape. The mind can also be a powerful tool in the face as adversity. Knowledge is just as powerful as a punch. If you can outsmart your opponent, or think your way out of a tough situation, you'll last a lot longer."

The betas regarded me with interest, wanting to know if there was more that I had to say. These pups were young and were willing to go through a tough training regimen in hopes for a better victory. I was like that when I was their age, thinking the best fighters were the ones who could hit the hardest, or endure the most injuries in combat. I had to learn the hard way what it meant to be a smart opponent rather than a dumb one.

"I agree with Rowan," Rosie's brother, Javier, said. "It's not always about how much of a beating you're willing to take to get stronger. The mind, and the heart, need to be as sharp as the body. I learned that from seeing what my former alpha's harsh training was doing to me mentally."

"I take it he was the type to knock you down and break a few bones as way to toughen you up," I guessed, sensing a similar pattern from how my father trained me when I was a pup.

Javier nodded. "He said an alpha needs to show no weakness, whether it's with emotion or physical strength. Kindness and compassion get you nowhere. Only the strong are respected."

"That seems to be a running gag with the men from my generation. Our fathers trained us that way, so we teach our heirs or pups in the same way."

"Even yours?" Caleb asked.

"Yes. Didn't your father train you that way too when you were a pup?"

"Caleb is a made wolf," Del cut in. "He was born and raised human until Javier turned him last year."

That surprised me. Made wolf shifters were very rare to come by. It was technically supposed to be outlawed, but from what these guys have endured, thanks to what Rosie explained to me, I could imagine the decision wasn't an easy one to make.
