“That can wait. You’re the boss. Have a little fun. Play hooky with me.”

“Seriously? Are you two?”

The wicked smirk he shoots me has the tug in my belly rippling all the way out to my fingertips. “Trust me, the things I want to do to your lovely body have nothing to do with babies.” He grins. “Unless it’s making them.”

“You are really demented.”

“I’ve only wanted one woman this bad, little one. So I intend to have her. Otherwise known as you.”

“I’m a lucky, lucky girl,” I grouse, fiddling with the magazine racks in front of the register.

“You really are. I think your friend Jamie thinks so. Rafe did say to watch out for her though. She’s dangerous.”

“Unless you’ve got big dick energy and then she’s apparently too fascinated to care what you’re doing.”

He chokes and wheezes. “What?” he laughs.

“Never mind. Why don’t you go find something to do until Rory gets here.”

“Fine. I’ll go check out the town. Be back soon, kitten.”

“I’ll be waiting with bated breath,” I growl under my breath.

“There’s my little kitten’s claws. Be back soon. Don’t miss me too much.”

I sigh and roll my shoulders, rubbing at the headache beginning to ramp up in my forehead.

“I don’t even know if that’s possible.”

“Keep a good thought.” He steps out the door, whistling and I groan, dropping my head to my crossed arms.

Why the hell can’t I control myself around that guy?

CHAPTER6

Steele

Every second I spend with Cleo feels like the perfect end to every day. The second date was apple picking because Cleo wanted to make apple pies for the fair. Apparently, there’s a bake sale. My girl didn’t bother telling me that if you bid on the pie, you bid on her.

As soon as I realized that, I pulled every bill out of my pocket until I paid 10,000 for my lovely Cleo’s dessert.

“Hmmm,” I groan when I slip the piece of soggy pie inside my mouth. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. It actually tastes like salt. And somehow like feet.

“So good,” I mumble around the mouthful I’m trying desperately to push down my throat without tasting it.

“You really like it?” Her face lights up like it’s Christmas morning and I can’t regret eating the damn pie. Every last bite of it. I nod my head and just keep pushing it down.

“So good.” My belly rumbles and spasms and sweat breaks out on my forehead.

Keep your cool, man. You can do this.

I rub my stomach, smiling grimly. “Baby, this has been so much fun but I think I need to go home and lay down. I think my jet lag is catching up with me.”

Her brow puckers. “It’s been a week. How come you’ve got jet lag now?”

“Mother nature’s a fickle lady. Who knows why? I’ll come see you at the shop tomorrow.”

“Alright. But I can’t go running off tomorrow. I’ve got an author who’s doing a book signing tomorrow.”
