“Counting cards is relatively simple if you’re observant and have a proper understanding of the deck,” Biba cuts in. “But it is illegal.”

“Dude,” David drawls, slapping Tad’s shoulder. “You never told me you had that superpower.”

“How can it possibly be a superpower if it’s illegal?” Tad wants to know.

“It’s only illegal if you get caught,” Chrissa says. “Fiona? You up for an adventure?”

Fiona yawns, so different and ladylike from what I observed this morning that I know it’s only pretend. “The only adventure I’m looking for is my bed. But thanks for asking.”

“I’m going to take a pass as well,” I say, feigning sleepiness with a little less gusto than Fiona does. “Tad?” I pull out the key card from my back pocket. “So you don’t wake me up.”

“How will you get in?” he asks with a frown.

“I’ll grab another from the front desk.”

“I guess you can do that when you own the place,” Demi muses.

“It is a nice perk.”

“On second thought, you’re not invited,” Chrissa says with a laugh. “It’ll be too obvious if you were there. You’re not going to tell, are you?”

“About what? Just don’t call if you get in trouble. Actually,” I add with a rueful smile— “call if you get into trouble.”

You’re a good guy.” And Chrissa gives me a little smirk with her side-eye. “We shouldn’t be too long, but don’t wait up. And we’ll try not to wake you when we get back.”

She winks at me.

“Do you think she knows?” I hiss as they move forward to extend the invitation to the others.

“Of course she knows,” Fiona whispers back. “I don’t know about you, but I think she’s some kind of witch. She knows things.”

“As long as she keeps what she knows to herself.”

“Yes, but you know what this means? My room will be empty enough to get you inside.”

“But how am I going to get out without them seeing me?”

Fiona shrugs. There’s that sparkle in her eye. “That’s a problem for the morning.”

I’m not waiting to be asked twice.

Chapter Nineteen

Fiona

MaseandIstandon opposite sides of the elevator with an oblivious Bexley and Grayson. They have no idea what’s going on in my mind.

My mind—I have no idea what Mase is thinking.

As the elevator chimes the sixteenth floor, he meets my furtive gaze with a wicked smile.

Maybe I know what he’s thinking.

Mase props the door open with his hand as Bexley gives him a hug. “Thanks for everything,” she gushes. “It’s been amazing.”

“I don’t know how to thank you,” Grayson adds. “For all of this.”

“Go and have a good rest of the night,” Mase says, and winks. “I know I’m going to. Darlin’.” He nods gravely at me.
