Taylor

Ahundred different emotions race through me as I lie in Seb’s arms. When I woke up earlier, surrounded by faces I didn’t know, the only person I’d wanted was him, especially when they’d told me how bad my injuries had been after the accident and how they weren’t sure I was going to pull through. I guess we still have things we need to talk about, but I’m scared and overwhelmed, and no matter what, he feels like home.

“Knock, knock,” a voice says from the doorway, and I lift my head off Seb’s shoulder to see Paisley, Nash, and the whole Brookes clan waiting to come in. “Sorry, we couldn’t wait any longer,” Paisley says. “Are we okay to come in?”

“Of course you are,” I say as Seb untangles his arms from around me, kisses me on the head, and climbs off the bed.

Paisley makes her way over and throws her arms around me. “I’m so sorry,” she whispers. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”

“It’s okay. I’m glad you’re here.” I fight back the tears as I hold her tightly. She’s my best friend, and while I was upset she didn’t tell me about Sophie, after everything that’s happened, it doesn’t matter anymore. I didn’t tell her Seb and I were sleeping together at the beginning. I guess we both kept secrets.

“How are you feeling?” she asks, pulling out of the embrace.

“A little sore, and my throat hurts. The doctor said the cast can come off my leg next week.”

She smiles and wipes away a tear. “That’s great, Taylor.”

My eyes widen as I remember why we were out for drinks the night of the accident. “Your wedding,” I exclaim. “I missed it.”

She takes my hand. “No, Tay. You didn’t miss it. I couldn’t get married when you were lying in a coma.”

Guilt washes over me. “You cancelled your wedding because of me?”

She shakes her head. “Not cancelled, postponed.”

“I’m so sorry,” I whisper.

“I need my best friend next to me when I get married.”

I reach up and pull her into a hug. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

After a round of hugs from everyone, along with a lot more tears, I yawn and Seb ushers everyone out of my room, insisting I need to rest.

“You didn’t have to make everyone leave,” I tell him as I rest my head back against the pillow. “I’m okay.”

“You’re tired.”

“I’ve been asleep for weeks, Seb.”

“You yawned.”

I chuckle. “I am hungry. Do you think you could find me something to eat?”

“Sure. Will you be okay on your own?” I nod. “What do you want?”

“Maybe a sandwich?”

“I’ll see what the cafeteria has.”

“Thank you.”

He hesitates. “I know we have things to talk about, but can I kiss you? I’ve waited five weeks. I’m not sure I can wait any longer.”

I smile. “Okay.”

Relief washes over his face as he sits on the bed next to me. His hand comes up to cup my chin and his fingers stroke my cheek before he lowers his head and brushes his lips over mine. The kiss is soft at first, but it soon turns urgent as I push my tongue into his mouth. Despite it feeling like I only kissed him yesterday, I can’t get close enough to him, and I wind my arms around his neck. We’re both breathing hard when he pulls away and rests his forehead on mine.
